How tumbling reels work
Every win removes the symbols that formed it. The symbols above drop down, new ones fill the gaps and the new layout is checked again. A chain ends when no win forms.
Studios often pair tumbles with multipliers that grow during a chain, especially in free spins. That makes long chains far more valuable than short ones and pushes many of these games towards high volatility.
RTP of tumbling reels slots
The highest headline RTPs among tumbling reels slots are Sweet Craze by Pragmatic Play (97.54%), Le Prechaun by Hacksaw Gaming (97.52%) and Merge Up by BGaming (97.25%). The average headline RTP across all 210 is 96.13%, and the lowest is 90.5% on Troy SuperWays.
42 of them (20%) are published in more than one RTP version, so the return depends on the version an operator runs. The widest gap is on Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness: from 96.59% down to 84.5%.
Volatility and max win
Volatility is published for 135 of the 210 games: 8 low, 27 medium, 46 high and 54 very high.
The largest published max wins are 100,000× on Mahjong Wins Super Scatter, 70,000× on Misery Mining and 70,000× on Fire in the Hole 3. The median max win of the 136 games that publish one is 10,000×. A max win is a rare ceiling, not a result to expect.
