Pearl Harbor review

Pearl Harbor is a cluster game from Nolimit City set during the Second World War air attack. The board is 7x7, but only the central 3x3 is active when a spin begins, and almost every special symbol is about pushing that rectangle outwards: bombs at the edges, targets outside it, oversized symbols. The bonus rounds move into a cockpit with 18 dials. There is no bonus buy, only two paid Banzai bet levels.

Clusters inside a moving rectangle

Wins come from clusters of matching symbols, five or more according to the game page, inside the active area. Winning clusters are removed and an avalanche refills the space. From the second distinct cluster in a sequence, the xCluster rule adds 1 to the win multiplier for each further unique cluster, so long chains are rewarded twice.

Scatters work differently from most cluster games: no more than one lands per reel, and they only count if they are inside the active area. That makes expanding the rectangle doubly important. The published hit frequency is 19.31%, roughly one spin in five, which is low for a cluster game.

Tools that grow the board

Four special symbols share the job of opening up space. Their effects can combine on one sequence.

xBomb Wild

Substitutes for regular symbols, not bonus symbols, and removes up to 10 adjacent symbols. It adds 1 to the next avalanche's multiplier, or more if it was split. On the border it shifts the active area; in a corner it adds both a reel and a row.

Target

When a Target lands outside the active area, the rectangle expands to include it, and the Target then turns into a wild.

xSplit swords

One or two samurai swords slice horizontally or vertically once they are inside the active area after an avalanche. Split symbols are doubled and inherit any multiplier; scatters, Targets and xBombs hit by a sword gain a 2x value. Split scatters feed the first bonus multiplier.

Colossal symbols

Symbols of 2x2 or 3x3 size expand the active area and carry a 2x or 3x multiplier. The rules note that splitting them can produce up to 18 symbols.

Dogfight and Tora! Tora! Tora!

Three active scatters start the Dogfight bonus. According to the game page, it plays on an instrument panel of 18 dials. Landing plus or multiplier values resets the spin counter to three. Filling a column triggers a Dogfight Attack, and filling all 18 dials sets off a Kamikaze Attack.

Four scatters start Tora! Tora! Tora!, which includes everything in the Dogfight round and adds two further modifiers, Midway Pop and Bomb Drop. Our source names them without explaining them, so we do not describe their effects.

Banzai bets instead of a buy

There is no direct bonus purchase. Instead, xBet Banzai comes in two levels. The +50% version costs 1.5 times the stake, places a scatter in the middle and makes Dogfight about three times as likely. The +100% version doubles the stake, drops two scatters and makes Tora! Tora! Tora! roughly ten times as likely.

Both raise the price of every spin, not just the spins that trigger something, so they change the size of a session budget more than its outcome.

As a worked example, a player who would normally stake $1 pays $1.50 per spin at the first Banzai level and $2 at the second. Over a hundred spins that is $50 or $100 more put through the game, and at the 3.79% house edge the expected cost rises in proportion.

Return and ceiling

The RTP is 96.21%, a house edge of 3.79%, or about $37.90 per $1,000 wagered. On average 100 spins cost $0.76 at $0.20, $3.79 at $1 and $18.95 at $5.

Our catalogue rates the volatility Very high, and the game page labels it Extreme. The Mission Accomplished cap is 41,127x the bet: $8,225.40 at a $0.20 stake and $41,127 at $1. San Quentin Manhunt lists 96.15% with 46,532x, and The Border 96.17% with 44,288x.

Pros

  • Expanding active area adds a clear goal to every spin
  • xCluster rewards multiple clusters with a growing multiplier
  • Two Banzai levels make the bonuses three or ten times more likely
  • 96.21% RTP

Cons

  • Hit frequency of 19.31% is low
  • Very high volatility, called Extreme on the game page
  • No bonus buy, and two bonus modifiers are not explained in our source

Verdict

Pearl Harbor is a cluster game built around expansion: bombs, Targets, swords and colossal symbols all widen the active rectangle, and scatters only count inside it. The bonus moves into an 18-dial cockpit with resetting spins. The RTP is 96.21% and the volatility is Very high, or Extreme per the game page, with only 19.31% of spins paying. The 41,127x cap is rare. Keep to a fixed budget.
