Barn Festival review

Barn Festival is a 2022 farmyard slot from Pragmatic Play that pairs pay-anywhere tumbles with a Money symbol doing two jobs. On its own a Money symbol carries a cash value; once three of them gather in one tumble cycle, their values turn into a multiplier for everything that follows in that cycle. Four of them open a respin round with extra reels. The ceiling is 20,000x the bet.

Counting symbols, not lines

A win needs at least 8 matching symbols anywhere on the screen. Where they sit does not matter, which keeps the game simple to read.

After each win the Tumble Feature takes over. Winning symbols are paid and removed, the remaining ones drop to the bottom, and new symbols fill the gaps from above. The cycle repeats until a tumble produces no new win, and the total for the whole cycle is credited only once the last tumble of the base spin has played out.

Tumble Feature

Clears every winning symbol after a payout and refills the board from the top. Each refill is checked for new wins, so a single paid spin can chain into several payouts. The chain stops when a tumble lands without a winning group.

The Money symbol as cash and as multiplier

The Money symbol can land on any reel. On every spin it picks a value from a fixed list: 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x or 500x the total bet. Most of that list sits at the low end, with a few large values at the top.

The key rule concerns three of them. When exactly 3 Money symbols have landed, either on one spin or gathered across several tumbles, their values are converted into win multipliers. These are added together and applied to the wins of every later tumble in that cycle. Any Money symbol landing after the third is converted as well and raises the running multiplier.

There is a safety valve for a dead spin. If exactly 3 Money symbols arrive on the opening result with no win, their summed multiplier is set aside and the board respins until at least one winning combination appears, so that multiplier is not lost.

Money Symbol

Carries a random value between 1x and 500x the total bet. Three in one tumble cycle turn their values into an additive win multiplier for the rest of the cycle, and further Money symbols increase it. Three on a losing first result trigger respins until a win lands.

The four-symbol round

According to the studio, landing four Money symbols starts the bonus. It begins with three respins, during which more reels can be unlocked and further wins collected. The studio says 7 additional feature symbols come into play during this round, and that they are the route to the 20,000x maximum.

The rules excerpt in our source does not explain what each of those 7 symbols does, how respins reset or how many reels can open. We leave those details to the official game rules and the demo rather than describe them from guesswork.

Return, cost and ceiling

The theoretical RTP from the official rules is 96.45%, with no alternative versions on record. That leaves a house edge of 3.55%, around $35.50 held back for each $1,000 staked across a long sample. A 100-spin session averages $0.71 at a $0.20 stake, $3.55 at $1 and $17.75 at $5.

Maximum winnings are limited to 20,000x the bet, which equals $4,000 at $0.20 and $20,000 at $1. Pragmatic Play publishes no volatility label for this game and there is no hit frequency on file. The structure, with multipliers that only switch on after three Money symbols, suggests that ordinary tumbles carry modest results and the bigger outcomes come from multiplier chains and the four-symbol round.

Neighbours by the numbers

No sequels exist in our catalogue. Sweet Bonanza from 2019 sits close at 96.48% with a 21,100x max win, and Sweet Bonanza 1000 from 2024 lists 96.53% with 25,000x. Sword of Ares, from the same year as Barn Festival, offers 96.4% and a 10,000x ceiling, half the top prize here.

Pros

  • Pay-anywhere tumbles with an 8-symbol minimum are easy to follow
  • Money symbols pay values up to 500x the bet or turn into additive multipliers
  • A losing spin with three Money symbols respins until a win lands
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • The bonus round's 7 extra feature symbols are not explained in our source
  • No volatility rating or hit frequency is published
  • Multipliers need exactly three Money symbols before they apply

Verdict

Barn Festival builds on a familiar pay-anywhere tumble engine and gives it a twist: the Money symbol is a cash prize until three gather, then becomes a growing multiplier for the rest of the cycle. The 96.45% RTP sets the house edge at 3.55%, while volatility is unpublished. The four-symbol bonus is thinly documented, so use the free demo to learn it, and keep play within a budget you decided in advance.
