Hell Butcher review
Hell Butcher is a dark 2026 release from Pragmatic Play set in the underworld. It uses a 6x6 grid where blocks of at least five matching symbols pay instantly, followed by tumbling reels. The unusual part is a meter of multipliers below the reels that wilds can hook into. In the bonus round, special scatters add three optional modifiers that change how that meter behaves.
Blocks, tumbles and the meter
Wins are formed by blocks of at least five matching symbols on the 6x6 grid. After a win the reels tumble, so one paid spin can contain several wins in a row.
Below the reels sits the multiplier meter. It starts with four values: 2x, 4x, 8x and 16x. When a wild lands in the base game it can hook a multiplier from the meter. If one is granted, the remaining three slide to the left and a new value joins at the end. During a tumbling sequence a value can double, with the ceiling set at 512x.
Wild multipliers
Wilds that land in the base game can randomly hook a multiplier from the meter. The studio puts the highest value a random wild multiplier can carry at 512x, so the meter is the main route to a large single win.
The bonus game and its modifiers
Three to six standard scatters start the bonus with 12 to 30 free spins, and landing three or more scatters in the round can add up to 30 more. Two special scatter symbols can also appear in a triggering combination. Each mix of standard and special scatters activates one of three feature modifiers.
Without going into each trigger, the studio describes the modifiers by their effect on wilds: a wild may award a random multiplier every time, remove certain multipliers from the meter for the rest of the round, or do both. The studio does not say which values are removed, so the demo is the place to see how each modifier plays out.
Cost of a session
The only RTP on record is 96.55%, so the house edge is 3.45%. That equals about $34.50 lost per $1,000 wagered on average. A run of 100 spins costs an average $0.69 at a $0.20 bet, $3.45 at $1 and $17.25 at $5, which is $500 wagered.
Volatility and max win are both marked as not published in our catalogue. The 512x figure is a limit on a wild multiplier, not on the whole win.
Neighbours with similar numbers
Inca Queen from the same studio and year shares the 96.55% RTP. Close behind are Death Dominion, Dragon Tiger Fortunes and Gates of Olympus POP at 96.54%, and Zeus vs Hades - Gods of War 250 at 96.56%. All are 2026 releases, so the choice between them will come from the mechanics, not the return.
Pros
- A multiplier meter that doubles up to 512x gives wilds real weight
- Three feature modifiers change how the bonus plays
- Up to 30 free spins, with more spins possible from scatters during the round
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Volatility and max win are not published, so the risk level is unclear
- The modifier rules are several layers deep for a first-time player
Verdict
Hell Butcher is built around a single idea: wild multipliers drawn from a moving meter, with the bonus modifiers deciding how that meter is treated. The 96.55% RTP means a 3.45% house edge, which is the real cost of each spin. Because volatility is not published, try the free demo first to judge how swingy it feels and whether the modifiers are worth your attention.
