Gates of Olympus 1000 review
Gates of Olympus 1000 is Pragmatic Play's 2023 revision of its 2021 game, and the title points to the main change: multiplier symbols can now be worth up to 1,000x. The rules otherwise stay compact. Symbols pay anywhere, tumbles keep a spin going, and the free spins carry a running total multiplier from one win to the next. The ceiling triples to 15,000x the bet.
Pay anywhere, tumble until it stops
There are no lines or ways to count. A win needs 8 or more of the same symbol anywhere on the screen. Winners are paid and removed, the remaining symbols drop down, and new ones fill the gaps from above. The process repeats with no limit on the number of tumbles, and the total is credited once the sequence for that base spin is over.
Scatters appear on all reels and pay in any position. They also open the bonus, which is where the game's structure points.
Multiplier symbols, base game and bonus
Multiplier symbols can land on any reel at any point, during the first drop or a later tumble, and in both the base game and the free spins. Each one takes a random value from a fixed list: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, 500x or 1,000x.
In the base game, the values on screen are added together when a tumbling sequence ends, and the sequence's total win is multiplied by that sum. A sequence that pays nothing gains nothing from its multipliers, so they only matter when they arrive alongside a win. The upper end of the list, 250x and above, is what lifts this version's ceiling.
Tumble Feature
After each paid result the winning symbols disappear, the rest fall, and new symbols drop in. Tumbling continues until a drop produces no win, without any cap on the number of tumbles in one spin.
Free spins with a running total
Four or more Scatters anywhere start the round with 15 free spins. Three or more Scatters during the round add 5 more. Special reels are used throughout.
The key difference from the base game is memory. Whenever a multiplier symbol lands and the spin produces a win, its value joins a total multiplier that lasts for the whole round. From then on, every new multiplier that lands with a win also applies that total to the win. A round that collects several large values early can turn later wins into big ones; a round where multipliers keep landing on losing spins builds nothing.
Ante Bet
The default bet multiplier is 20x. Raising it to 25x costs 1.25 times the normal stake, puts more Scatters on the reels and doubles the natural chance of free spins. While it is active, the free spins purchase is disabled.
Buy Free Spins
At the standard 20x setting, the round can be bought for 100x the current total bet. The triggering spin then lands with 4 Scatters.
Return and range
The official rules give a theoretical RTP of 96.5%, the only version in our catalogue, for a house edge of 3.5%. That works out to $35 per $1,000 wagered over a long run. A 100-spin session costs on average $0.70 at a $0.20 stake, $3.50 at $1 and $17.50 at $5, more with the Ante Bet on.
Wins are capped at 15,000x: $3,000 at $0.20 and $75,000 at $5. Pragmatic Play publishes no volatility rating here and no hit frequency is on file. Multipliers worth up to 1,000x that need a win to land with them suggest wide swings.
The original and close relatives
The 2021 Gates of Olympus is listed at the same 96.5% RTP but with a 5,000x cap, a third of this version's ceiling. Starlight Princess 1000, from the same year, matches both the RTP and the 15,000x cap. Sweet Bonanza 1000 from 2024 lists 96.53% with 25,000x. Players weighing the two Gates versions are choosing a ceiling, not a better return, since the RTP is identical.
Pros
- Multiplier values reach 1,000x and land in both base game and free spins
- A total multiplier builds across the whole free spins round
- Simple 8-symbol pay-anywhere rule with unlimited tumbles
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Multipliers only count when they land together with a win
- No volatility rating or hit frequency is published
- Buying the bonus costs 100x the bet
Verdict
Gates of Olympus 1000 keeps the original's simple engine and raises the multiplier list to 1,000x, tripling the ceiling to 15,000x. In the free spins a running total multiplier gives each round a chance to build. The RTP stays at 96.5%, a 3.5% house edge, and no volatility rating is published.
