San Quentin Manhunt review

San Quentin Manhunt follows a gang on the run from a prison break, with tracker dogs on their trail. Nolimit City swaps the usual ways for a pay-anywhere system on a narrow, diamond-like grid of 1, 3, 5, 5, 3 and 1 rows. Every position carries a multiplier block that doubles as wins land on it, and locked Enhancer Cells above and below each reel hide wilds and modifiers. Multipliers can reach 128x in the base game and 512x in the top bonus.

Pay anywhere, then drop

Any symbol that appears 7 or more times anywhere on the grid pays. The winners are removed and new symbols drop into their place, which can form a fresh win. The published hit frequency is 20.92%, about one spin in five, so many spins pay nothing.

The starting grid is small, with single-row outer reels and only five rows at its widest point, and locked spaces sit above and below every reel, waiting to be opened. The game page says the layout can grow to seven rows on every reel; the rules summary in our pack lists reels of up to five rows plus the Enhancer Cells. Either way, unlocking space is central to everything else.

Multiplier blocks and Cell Search

Each grid position holds its own multiplier, and a symbol's win is multiplied by the value of the position it sits on. These values double each time a win lands on the position, when Cell Search collects from it, or when an xSplit hits its reel. In the base game a block can reach 128x.

Multiplier Blocks

Per-position multipliers that double on wins, Cell Search or xSplit, up to 128x in the base game and Sewer Escape, and up to 512x in Manhunt Spins. During the bonuses they stay in place between spins instead of resetting.

Cell Search

Triggers on a spin with no win. The lowest object symbols are collected into a wild, which gets a multiplier based on how many were collected, and the multiplier blocks on the collected positions double. It turns a blank spin into progress.

Enhancer Cells and their contents

A bonus symbol on reels 2 to 5 unlocks the Enhancer Cells on its reel. An unlocked cell reveals either a Prisoner symbol or a modifier, never another bonus symbol.

Cake Buster

Unlocks a locked position and turns it into a wild. If nothing is left to unlock, it turns a random position wild instead.

xWays and xSplit

xWays becomes a Prisoner revealing two to four of the same symbol, and several xWays on one spin show the same symbol. xSplit doubles every multiplier block on its reel, then becomes a Prisoner.

Yard Dealer

Upgrades a random object symbol to a higher-paying one, then turns into a Prisoner itself.

Sewer Escape and Manhunt Spins

Three bonus symbols start Sewer Escape Spins and four start Manhunt Spins. In both, multiplier blocks keep their values from spin to spin. In Sewer Escape they cap at 128x; in Manhunt the cap rises to 512x and, according to the game page, the corner Enhancer Cells can also unlock. Two, three or four bonus symbols during a round add 2, 3 or 4 spins. The starting spin counts are not stated in our source.

Boosters, cost and the cap

Instead of an xBet there are paid boosters. For 2x the bet, a spin carries at least one bonus symbol. For 20x, at least two. For 100x, at least two, with unlocked positions starting at 64x. For 2,000x, at least two, with every position starting at 128x. The last one means $2,000 on a $1 bet.

The RTP is 96.15%, a house edge of 3.85%, about $38.50 per $1,000 wagered. On average 100 spins cost $0.77 at $0.20, $3.85 at $1 and $19.25 at $5. Our catalogue rates the volatility Very high; the game page says Extreme. The Jail Break cap is 46,532x the bet, $9,306.40 at a $0.20 stake. Gator Hunters lists 96.11% with 25,000x, and The Crypt 2 96.1% with 31,248x.

Pros

  • Per-position multipliers that double up to 128x, or 512x in Manhunt
  • Cell Search turns spins without a win into wilds and higher multipliers
  • Bonus multipliers stay in place between spins
  • 96.15% RTP

Cons

  • Hit frequency of 20.92% means many empty spins
  • Very high volatility, called Extreme on the game page
  • Top booster costs 2,000x the bet

Verdict

San Quentin Manhunt combines pay-anywhere wins with a grid of doubling multiplier blocks, and its Enhancer Cells, Cell Search and modifiers all feed those blocks. The bonuses keep the multipliers between spins, with Manhunt lifting the cap to 512x. The RTP is 96.15% and the volatility is Very high, or Extreme per the game page. The 46,532x cap is remote. Set a budget and be wary of the pricier boosters.
