Sweet Bonanza review
Sweet Bonanza drops the idea of paylines altogether. Pragmatic Play released it in 2019 as a candy-coloured grid where clusters of matching sweets pay wherever they land, then vanish to make room for more. Four follow-ups have been built on it since, and its free spins, where multiplier bombs add up across a chain of tumbles, are the heart of the design.
How a spin pays
There are no lines to follow. A spin pays when 8 or more matching symbols appear anywhere on the screen, and larger groups of 12 or more pay the most. According to the studio, a full group of matching symbols can return up to 50x the bet on its own.
Every win sets off a tumble: the winning symbols disappear, the ones above fall into the gaps and new symbols drop in from the top. If the new layout forms another group, it pays again and the chain continues. One paid spin can therefore turn into several wins before the board settles, which is where most of the game's action sits.
The free spins and the multiplier bombs
The scatter symbol is the way into the bonus. Landing 4 to 6 scatters anywhere awards 10 free spins, and the scatters themselves pay up to 100x the bet on the spin that triggers the round.
The bonus is where the game changes character. During the free spins, multiplier symbols can land with values from 2x to 100x. They do not pay on their own; instead, when a tumbling sequence ends, the values of every multiplier on the screen are added together and applied to the wins of that sequence. Two or three bombs landing during a long chain is what produces the largest results, while a sequence without any multiplier pays at face value.
Tumbling reels
Winning symbols are removed after every win and replaced from above, so a single spin can pay several times in a row. The chain ends when a new layout no longer forms a winning group.
Multiplier symbols
Only in the free spins: bombs worth 2x to 100x can land, and at the end of a tumbling sequence their values are summed and multiply the win of that sequence.
The numbers behind the sweets
Sweet Bonanza is listed with a single RTP of 96.48%, which leaves a house edge of 3.52%. Over a very long run that means about $35.20 kept for every $1,000 wagered.
The published max win is 21,100x the bet. At a $0.20 stake that ceiling is $4,220; at $1 it is $21,100. As always, the ceiling is a rare outcome, not a target. Pragmatic Play does not publish a volatility rating for this game in our data, but the design tells you how the return is spread: modest base-game tumbles most of the time, with the bulk of the potential concentrated in a bonus that depends on multipliers landing during long chains.
In practice, 100 spins at $1 put $100 through the game and cost $3.52 on average, while 100 spins at $5 cost $17.60 on average. Real sessions swing far from those averages in both directions, which is exactly why setting a budget before you start matters more than any single figure on this page.
The Sweet Bonanza family
The original spawned four follow-ups in our catalogue. Sweet Bonanza Xmas from the same year keeps the 96.48% RTP with a festive look. Sweet Bonanza 1000 from 2024 lists a 96.53% RTP and a 25,000x max win, and Sweet Bonanza Super Scatter from 2025 pushes the ceiling to 50,000x at 96.51%. The newest, Sweet Bonanza 2500, arrived in 2026 with a 96.52% RTP.
Among games with similar numbers, Gates of Olympus from 2021 lists a 96.5% RTP and a 5,000x max win, and Starlight Princess 1000 shares that 96.5% RTP with a 15,000x ceiling.
Who it suits
Sweet Bonanza suits players who enjoy fast, readable spins and are patient enough to wait for a bonus that carries most of the value. Beginners can learn it in a minute because there are no paylines to track. Players who prefer frequent small, steady results may find the base game thin between bonuses. The free demo is the best way to see how the tumbles and the bomb multipliers feel before deciding whether the game fits your budget.
Pros
- Pay-anywhere wins with tumbling reels are easy to follow
- Free spin multipliers from 2x to 100x add up across a whole tumble sequence
- A high 21,100x max win for a 2019 release
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Most of the potential sits in the bonus, so the base game can feel quiet
- No volatility rating is published for this game
- The 96.48% RTP still leaves a 3.52% house edge
Verdict
Sweet Bonanza has earned its four sequels by keeping the rules simple and putting the excitement in the free spins, where multiplier bombs of 2x to 100x add up over a tumble sequence. The 96.48% RTP is fair rather than high, and the 21,100x max win is a rare ceiling. Try the free demo first and treat it as paid entertainment with a 3.52% house edge.
