Gates of Hades review

Gates of Hades, released by Pragmatic Play in 2025, is a cluster slot on a six by six grid in which the wild symbols matter more than the paying ones. Each wild can carry a multiplier, the multipliers are stored in meters above the reels, and the free spins keep them from one tumble to the next. Most of the game's potential is built from that one idea.

Clusters, tumbles and the six by six grid

Wins need clusters of at least five connected symbols. After each win the winning symbols disappear, the rest drop down and new symbols fill the empty positions from above. The rules state there is no limit to the number of tumbles, and all wins from one base spin are added to the balance only once the last tumble has finished.

The Scatter can appear on every reel. Its job is to open the free spins.

Wild multipliers

The Wild can land on any reel in the base game and in the bonus, during spins and tumbles alike. What sets it apart is the multiplier it may carry.

Multiplier values

A Wild can carry 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 30x, 50x or 100x. The value is collected in a meter on top of the reel where the Wild landed, and cluster wins are multiplied by the sum of the values collected in these meters.

Several multipliers in one spin

The studio notes that if more than one multiplier lands on a single base-game spin, their values are added together and applied to the total win. In practice, two or three mid-sized values can combine into a much larger factor than any single Wild would give.

Free spins and the Super version

According to the rules, three, four, five or six-plus scatters award 10, 12, 15 or 20 free spins. The studio's short summary mentions four or more scatters as the trigger, so the two texts disagree on the lowest count; we follow the rules.

In the bonus, the meters on top of each reel are not cleared after tumbles. They stay until the round ends, and the multiplier values mentioned for it extend to 200x and 500x. More scatters during the round add 5, 7, 10 or 12 spins. A round opened by six or more scatters becomes Super Free Spins, where the lowest multiplier a Wild can carry is 10x. That removes the small values from the pool and raises the floor for every Wild that follows.

Buying the bonus

The free spins can be bought directly. Paying 100 times the bet starts the normal round, with between three and six scatters on the triggering spin. Paying 500 times the bet starts the Super Free Spins. Both purchases skip the base game, and the 500x price is five times the cost of the standard option.

The maths of a spin

Pragmatic Play's rules give a theoretical RTP of 96.52%, a house edge of 3.48%. Over a long run that is $34.80 lost per $1,000 wagered. The catalogue holds no volatility label for this game, so it is left unrated here.

A hundred spins cost an average of $0.70 at a $0.20 bet, $3.48 at $1 and $17.40 at $5. The win limit is 10,000 times the bet, or $2,000 at $0.20, $10,000 at $1 and $50,000 at $5. A free demo is available.

Where it sits among similar games

Several games from the same studio sit nearby in the catalogue, most with lower ceilings. Sugar Rush Xmas (2023), Wild Beach Party (2022) and Fruit Party 2 (2021) each list a 5,000x max win, at 96.5%, 96.53% and 96.53%. Wild West Gold Blazing Bounty offers 7,500x at 96.48%, and Anaconda Gold matches the 10,000x cap at 96.54%.

Sugar Rush 1000 from 2024 goes further, with a 25,000x ceiling and an RTP of 96%. Anyone who wants the same studio style with a higher cap has that as the natural comparison.

Pros

  • Wild multipliers up to 100x are summed on the reels they affect
  • Free spins keep every collected multiplier until the round ends
  • Super Free Spins set a 10x minimum for Wild multipliers
  • Official free demo is available

Cons

  • No volatility rating is published
  • The 500x price for Super Free Spins is five times the standard buy
  • The studio's summary and the rules disagree on the scatter count

Verdict

Gates of Hades is a multiplier-first cluster slot. The 96.52% RTP leaves a 3.48% house edge, the win limit is 10,000x the bet, and the free spins are where the stored Wild values do their work. Volatility is not published, so the demo is the best way to see how often the meters actually fill before deciding on a stake.
