Sugar Rush Xmas review
Sugar Rush Xmas is the festive follow-up to Sugar Rush, a cluster game that Pragmatic Play first released in 2022. It plays on a 7x7 grid, where five or more connected symbols make a win and the winners explode. Where they explode, the board remembers: spots are marked, and a marked spot that keeps exploding grows a multiplier that can climb as high as x128. In the free spins, those spots and their values stay put.
Clusters and tumbles
Wins come from connected blocks of at least five matching symbols on the 7x7 grid. After every spin, winning symbols are paid and vanish, the remaining ones fall to the bottom, and new symbols drop into the empty positions. Tumbling goes on until no new win forms, and only then are the wins added to the balance.
Multiplier spots
This is the feature that gives the game its shape. Whenever a winning symbol explodes, it marks its spot on the grid. After a symbol explodes on the same spot for the second time, a multiplier is added to it, starting at x2. Each further explosion on top of it doubles the value, up to a maximum of x128. The multiplier applies to every winning combination that hits on top of the spot, and when several multipliers are part of one win, they are added to each other.
In the base game, the marked spots last for a limited time; our extract is cut off before it says exactly how long. In the free spins the picture changes, as the next section explains.
Multiplier Spots
A spot is marked when a winning symbol explodes there. From the second explosion on the same spot, a multiplier appears: x2, then doubling with each new explosion, to a cap of x128. Multipliers in one winning combination are summed.
Free spins that remember
Three, four, five, six or seven scatters anywhere on the screen award 10, 12, 15, 20 or 30 free spins. During the round, the marked spots and their multipliers remain in place until the end of the round, and they can keep growing with later tumbles across all of the spins. Landing three to seven scatters during the round awards the same numbers as extra spins, so the retrigger table mirrors the opening one. The studio highlights the retriggers, with up to 30 additional spins possible.
The effect is cumulative. A spot that reaches a high value early stays available for every later win, so the free spins can be more valuable than the same number of base game spins.
Buying the round
The free spins can be bought from the base game for 100x the current total bet. In a bought round, the number of scatters, from three to seven, is random. There is no ante bet in this game.
RTP, cap and cost
The catalogue lists 96.5%, a house edge of 3.5%, or about $35 lost per $1,000 wagered. The official rules give a theoretical RTP of 95.5%, so treat that as another published figure that an operator may run. Volatility is not published. The maximum win is 5,000x the bet: $1,000 at a $0.20 bet, $5,000 at $1 and $25,000 at $5.
On the 96.5% version, 100 spins at $0.20 cost about $0.70 on average, 100 spins at $1 cost $3.50 and 100 spins at $5 cost $17.50, a $500 total.
Sugar Rush and similar games
Sugar Rush, from 2022, lists 96.5% and 5,000x, the same headline numbers. Others with similar figures include Fruit Party 2 at 96.53% and 5,000x, Wild Beach Party at 96.53% and 5,000x, and Gates of Hades at 96.52% with a 10,000x cap, released in 2025.
Pros
- Multiplier spots that double from x2 up to x128
- Marked spots and their values stay in place through the whole free spins round
- Up to 30 free spins, with retriggers of the same size
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Catalogue RTP of 96.5% differs from 95.5% in the official rules
- Free spins cost 100x the bet to buy
- No volatility rating is published
Verdict
Sugar Rush Xmas keeps the cluster-and-tumble format of its predecessor and builds on one clear mechanic, the multiplier spots. Its catalogue RTP is 96.5%, with 95.5% in the official rules, a 3.5% house edge on the higher figure, no published volatility and a 5,000x cap. Because the multipliers persist in the free spins, the bonus carries much of the potential. The free demo is the safest way to see the spots build.
