Gods of Giza review

Every win in Gods of Giza plants the seed of the next one. Winning clusters are removed, new symbols fall in, and each win leaves behind a wild, some of them with a countdown that ticks down each time they are used. Pragmatic Play set this on a 5x5 board with jewels, Horus and Anubis. The free spins scale with the number of scatters, all the way up to 120 spins, though the studio and the rules disagree about the starting point.

Clusters, cascades and wilds

Wins come from adjacent clusters of three or more symbols on the 5x5 grid. The symbol list is short: six regular symbols, one scatter and one wild. The studio describes varying coloured jewels joined by Horus and Anubis. Our catalogue classes the game as cluster pays and does not flag a tumble, although both the studio and the rules describe winning symbols being removed and replaced by a cascade.

What sets the game apart is what a win leaves behind. Each win also creates a wild, which makes later wins easier to form. Some wilds carry a countdown that falls by one with each win they take part in, and the wild is removed when it reaches the end. The rules add that wilds can contribute to wins on five separate cascades before they go.

Free spins: where the sources diverge

The scatter requirement is stated differently in the two documents. The studio's page says at least four scatters are needed to award 15 free spins. The official rules say three or more scatters trigger the round, with three giving 10 spins, four giving 15, five giving 20, and each additional scatter contributing five more, up to 120 spins for 25 scatters. Both agree that four scatters mean 15 spins; the difference is whether three are enough.

The rules also say the free spins start only after the cascades have finished, so a triggering scatter does not interrupt a chain in progress.

Scatter ladder

Each scatter beyond the third adds five spins, so the start of the round scales with the scatter count. The rules give 10 spins for three scatters, 15 for four, 20 for five and 120 for 25. The higher steps need many scatters to land at once, which is why the 120-spin figure is a ceiling.

Retrigger

During the free spins, three or more scatters add a fixed five spins. Unlike the opening award, the retrigger does not grow with the scatter count, so landing more than three scatters does not add more.

The numbers

One RTP is on record: 96.01%. That is a house edge of 3.99%, or about $39.90 lost per $1,000 wagered. Over 100 spins the average cost is $0.80 at a $0.20 bet, $3.99 at $1 and $19.95 at $5, which is $500 wagered.

No max win or volatility label is published, so a top prize in money cannot be given at any bet size.

Similar cluster slots

Diamond Cascade (96.06%) and Sticky Bees (96.06%) are the nearest on RTP, both from 2023 and without a listed max win. The Sugar Rush family has caps in the catalogue: Sugar Rush 1000 lists 96% and 25,000x, while Sugar Rush and Sugar Rush Xmas both list 96.5% and 5,000x. Jewel Rush is at 96.47%.

Pros

  • Every win creates a wild, which helps later wins
  • Free spins scale with the scatter count, up to 120 spins in total
  • Retrigger adds a fixed five spins
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Studio page and official rules disagree on how many scatters start the free spins
  • No max win or volatility label is published
  • Wilds with countdowns are removed after a limited number of wins

Verdict

Gods of Giza is a cascade-driven cluster slot in which each win feeds the next through a new wild. Its 96.01% RTP gives a 3.99% house edge, and the free spins can run up to 120 spins, but no max win or volatility is published and the sources differ on the scatter trigger. Check the paytable in the free demo, and treat the game as paid entertainment.
