Gems Bonanza review

Gems Bonanza plays like a treasure map. Pragmatic Play's 2020 slot uses an 8×8 grid, pays for clusters of five or more and tumbles winning symbols away. Coloured markings on the board form a path that leads to a spin feature: Nuclear power that brings new symbols, or Lucky Wilds that land in random positions. Climb the levels and the last one carries a 10x multiplier. The studio does not publish a max win or a volatility rating.

Clusters, tumbles and an 8×8 board

A win needs at least five connected matching symbols. Winners disappear, the rest fall to the bottom and fresh symbols drop in from above. Tumbling keeps going until there are no more winning combinations or spin features, and all wins from a base spin are added to the balance only after every tumble and feature has finished.

The wild substitutes for all symbols. It never appears on its own but only through the Wild Gem and Lucky Wilds features, and the same wild can join several groups of different symbols.

Spin features and the path

The coloured markings on the grid form a path that leads to a spin feature. The studio lists two of them by name, and a bonus level structure sits around them.

Lucky Wilds

A green mark awards this feature. After all the tumbles from the current spin have finished, between 5 and 15 wild symbols are added to the screen in random positions.

Nuclear power

The studio describes a spin feature with a Nuclear power that can bring new symbols onto the screen. It is one of the modifiers that Gold Fever switches on.

Gold Fever

This feature activates all spin modifiers together. Reaching the last level rewards a 10x win multiplier. The rules add that the feature ends when too few winning symbols have been collected to advance, or when all spin features from level 5 have been played.

What the catalogue and the rules disagree on

The catalogue gives a 96.51% RTP. The rules document states a theoretical 96.55% instead, a small gap. The catalogue also flags free spins for this game, but the studio description does not describe a free spins round. The bonus it describes is the level path with Gold Fever, so we do not state any free spin counts.

RTP and cost

On the catalogue figure, the house edge is 3.49% and each $1,000 wagered costs about $34.90 on average. In 100 spins the average loss is $0.70 at $0.20, $3.49 at $1 and $17.45 at $5. Under the rules figure the edge would be slightly smaller. No max win is published, so the 10x top-level multiplier is the only ceiling-type number the studio gives, and it is a multiplier on wins, not a limit on them.

Cluster games nearby

Fruit Party lists 96.5% from 2020 with a 5,000x cap, and Fruit Party 2 lists 96.53% from 2021. Sugar Rush, Wild Beach Party and Sugar Rush Xmas, from 2022 and 2023, list between 96.5% and 96.53%. Gates of Hades, from 2025, lists 96.52% with 10,000x.

Pros

  • Cluster wins on an 8×8 grid with tumbles
  • Lucky Wilds add 5 to 15 wilds in random positions
  • Gold Fever activates every spin modifier, and the last level pays a 10x multiplier
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • No max win or volatility rating published
  • RTP is 96.51% in the catalogue and 96.55% in the rules
  • The studio gives few numbers for the level path

Verdict

Gems Bonanza is a cluster slot with a map-style progression: tumbles, Lucky Wilds, Nuclear power and a Gold Fever finale at a 10x multiplier. The 96.51% RTP, or 96.55% in the rules, is in line with its fruit-slot neighbours. With no max win or volatility published and few details on the levels, the free demo is the way to judge how the feature path behaves.
