Gates of Olympus Xmas 1000 review
This 2024 release from Pragmatic Play puts Zeus in a snowy setting and keeps the 6x5 layout of the original Gates of Olympus. Wins need at least eight matching symbols, and the headline feature is the multiplier symbol, which can carry a value anywhere from 2x to 1,000x. The studio does not publish a volatility label or a max win for it, so the review below sticks to what the rules and the RTP can support.
How a spin pays
The board is a 6x5 grid with Zeus standing to the right of the reels. Instead of lines, the game looks for groups: you need at least eight matching symbols on screen to be paid. The studio lists crowns, hourglasses and gems among the snow-covered symbols.
Because wins come from counts rather than positions, the result of a spin is easy to read. The interesting part is what gets added on top of a win, and that is where the multipliers come in.
Multipliers and the free spins
In the base game a multiplier symbol can land on any reel. Each one leaves behind a value between 2x and 1,000x. The studio says these values are combined at the end of every spin and then awarded, so two or three moderate multipliers on the same spin can add up to a large figure.
The bonus round works differently. Here the multiplier values are not paid out spin by spin; they are collected into a running total for the whole round, which is then applied to any win whenever a new symbol lands. That makes the bonus the place where a total can keep growing.
Multiplier symbols
They can hit on any reel in the base game and carry a value from 2x to 1,000x. All values that landed on a spin are combined at the end of it and applied. In the free spins they feed a persistent round total instead.
Free spins
Four or more scatters start the round with 15 spins. Landing three or more scatters while it is running adds five more spins. The studio also mentions special reels in play during the round, but does not describe how they change the layout.
What the numbers say
Only one RTP is recorded, 96.5%. That leaves a house edge of 3.5%, or an average cost of $35 per $1,000 wagered. Over 100 spins at $0.20 the average loss is $0.70, at $1 it is $3.50 and at $5, a total of $500 wagered, it is $17.50. Real sessions swing well above and below those averages.
Our catalogue has no volatility label and no max win for this game. The 1,000x figure belongs to a single multiplier symbol; it is not a cap on what a spin can pay, and we do not present it as one.
Where it sits in the Olympus line
Our catalogue has one other game in this series: the original Gates of Olympus from 2021, also at 96.5%, with a recorded max win of 5,000x. The two share the same return, so the choice comes down to the setting and the multiplier range rather than the RTP.
Games with a matching 96.5% RTP from 2024 include Badge Blitz, Barnyard Megahays Megaways and Big Bass Bonanza - Reel Action. Those are only numeric neighbours, not variations on the same design.
Pros
- Multiplier symbols range from 2x to 1,000x and are summed rather than applied one by one
- In the free spins the multiplier total persists for the whole round
- Free spins can be retriggered with three or more scatters for five extra spins
- Free official demo available
Cons
- No volatility label and no max win in our catalogue, so the risk profile has to be judged from the rules
- Free spins start with 15 spins and extra spins arrive in small blocks of five
Verdict
Gates of Olympus Xmas 1000 is a seasonal reworking built around one idea: multipliers that stack, up to 1,000x each. The 96.5% RTP is ordinary for Pragmatic Play and the 3.5% house edge applies to every spin. Without a published volatility or max win, use the free demo to see how often the multipliers actually arrive before deciding if the pace and cost suit you.
