Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo's Revenge review

Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo's Revenge follows El Gordo's daughter as she sets out to punish the town that killed and humiliated her father. Nolimit City pairs the story with an extreme design. A Revolver reel fires random cylinder features, a Revenge Meter raises Wild multipliers through the bonus, and the xRIP rule wipes out any small win. The cap of 500,000x the bet is matched by a hit frequency of just 9.39%.

Six reels, one of them loaded

The reels run 2-3-3-3-3-2, which gives 324 ways from the left. The sixth reel is special. It holds only two-high stacks of characters or Revolver symbols, has no low-paying symbols, and is inactive if only half a stack lands.

xNudge Wilds appear on the four middle reels. Each one lands stacked and nudges until it is fully visible, gaining 1 to its multiplier with every step, and the multipliers of several xNudge Wilds in a win are added. Two Slaughter Scatters, which also land on the middle reels, produce Reel Split Wilds that split their reel's symbols in half, adding ways.

The rule that changes everything: xRIP

If the total paytable win of a spin is less than the base bet, xRIP cancels it and nothing is paid. Small consolation wins, the kind that soften losing runs in most slots, are simply removed. That is the main reason the hit frequency sits at 9.39%: fewer than one spin in ten pays, and the value removed from small wins is shifted towards bigger ones.

For anyone used to frequent small returns this feels very different, and it is worth understanding before staking money.

Quickdraw and the Revenge Meter

Two systems carry most of the potential.

Quickdraw

A fully stacked Revolver on the last reel fires 3 to 6 Cylinder features. The possible shots include Backstab and Shootout Wilds, xSplit, Infectious xSplit, a Justice Wild and the Boothill Multiplier, which can range from x5 to x999. In the bonus, Revolver cylinders can also add Killcount multipliers or a Revenge level up.

El Gordo Revenge Meter

Runs through levels 1 to 5, and each level raises the starting multiplier of xNudge Wilds, from 1 up to 5. Bonus symbols on reels 2 to 5 during free spins add a spin, fill a meter spot and raise multipliers for future levels. Four Bonus symbols move the meter to the next level once the current spins play out.

Slaughter Spins and Massacre Spins

Three Slaughter Scatters award 5 Slaughter Spins. Throughout the round the last reel always shows either a full character with a random multiplier between 5 and 99, or a Revolver. Four Scatters also give 5 spins, but with two meter spots already filled and stronger xNudge starting multipliers.

A Revolver landing with the triggering Scatters starts Massacre Spins instead, again 5 spins, with the Revolver sticky on the last reel for the whole feature, so Quickdraw fires every spin. A full Revolver during Slaughter Spins upgrades the remaining spins to Massacre and adds 2. Any round ends at the 500,000x cap, which the game calls El Gordo Revenged.

Boosters

xBet costs 1.2x the bet and places a Slaughter Scatter on reel 2. Super xBet costs 15x and places two. The xNudge Booster costs 35x for two xNudge Wilds, and the xNudge & Revolver Booster costs 3,000x for one xNudge Wild plus a full Revolver. A separate Massacre buy exists, but our source gives no price.

The cost of revenge

The official page gives an RTP of 96%, so the house edge is 4%, or $40 on every $1,000 staked across a long run. A 100-spin session averages $0.80 at $0.20, $4 at $1 and $20 at $5. Our catalogue labels the volatility Very high; the studio page uses its Insane rating. With xRIP and a 9.39% hit rate, both labels understate how quiet long stretches can be.

The cap equals $100,000 at a $0.20 stake. The only series entry in our catalogue, Tombstone, lists a 96.19% RTP, a High rating and an 11,456x max win, a far gentler profile. Tombstone R.I.P at 96.08% with 300,000x and San Quentin 2: Death Row at 96.13% with 200,000x are the closest similar games.

Pros

  • A 500,000x cap, the highest among its similar games
  • Revolver Quickdraw can fire Boothill Multipliers of up to x999
  • Revenge Meter steadily raises xNudge multipliers through levels 1 to 5
  • Massacre Spins keep the Revolver sticky for every spin

Cons

  • xRIP voids every win below the base bet
  • Hit frequency of only 9.39%
  • Volatility rated Insane by the studio, Very high in our data
  • Top booster costs 3,000x the bet

Verdict

Tombstone Slaughter is built for one kind of player: someone who accepts that most spins pay nothing, that small wins are voided by xRIP, and that the bonus decides almost everything. In exchange it offers a Revolver reel, a five-level Revenge Meter and a 500,000x cap. The 96% RTP means a 4% house edge, and volatility is Very high, Insane by the studio. Treat it with a strict budget.
