Tombstone Begins review
This is a prequel to the studio's earlier Tombstone slot, set when the town was still cowboys, cattle and gold-rich land, with an outlaw called El Gordo chasing a name. The mechanics are less simple than the setting. Wins freeze in place and respin, revolvers fire bullets that turn symbols into wilds or multipliers, and three bonus tiers decide how loaded the guns are. It is a dense design, aimed at players who want to read the rules before the first bet.
An unusual grid and Win Respins
The reels are laid out 4-5-5-5-4, which gives 22 paylines that pay from left to right. Any win starts the Win Respins. The winning symbols, and every other symbol of the same type, stay in place. Wilds, Revolvers and, in the base game, Bonus symbols also stick.
Each new sticky symbol awards one more respin, and the payout comes when no respins are left. A single win can therefore turn into a chain in which the board fills up with locked symbols.
The revolver and its bullets
Revolvers land with between three and six bullets. On each spin a revolver fires one bullet, moving left to right and top to bottom. Wild bullets and upgrades change symbols on the board, while the others work on multipliers.
Two special symbols change the ammunition. Unleash makes every revolver fire all of its remaining bullets one after another, and Refill reloads every revolver to six bullets. Each can appear at most once per spin.
xSplit bullet
Doubles the multiplier of the symbol it hits, whether that is a regular symbol or a Wild. It rewards a board that has already built value.
xNudge Wild bullet
Places a Wild above the top of reel two or four. When the respins are over, it nudges fully into view, and every step adds 1 to the win multiplier.
xNudge Multiplier bullet
Adds to the multiplier of an xNudge Wild. The additions are 2x, 3x, 10x or 100x, and they stack with each other.
Upgrade bullet
Turns a symbol into one with a higher pay. The rules also list a Random bullet type.
Three bonus tiers
The number of Bonus symbols chooses the round. Three start Gunslinger Spins with six free spins. Four start Outlaw Spins with eight, and all revolvers land fully loaded. Five start Widowmaker Spins with ten, and the revolvers fire their remaining bullets before an xNudge activates or when no respins are left.
The xNudge multiplier is not reset between spins in any of the three rounds. That persistence is the main reason the bonus carries most of the potential. Each round ends when the spins run out or when the 20,000x cap, which the game calls Vengeance, is reached.
After a bonus there may be an offer to buy an Extra Spin that keeps the earlier xNudge multipliers and brings a revolver with an xNudge bullet. It is offered only when its price does not exceed the total win of the round.
Paying to skip ahead
Four options can be switched on before a spin. They cost more per spin, so they change how fast the stake is used, not how the maths behaves.
Bonus Booster
Costs 2x the bet and puts a Bonus symbol on reel two. It is the light option, and one symbol alone does not start a round.
xNudge Showdown
Costs 30x the bet and brings a revolver holding two xNudge bullets and two xNudge multiplier bullets.
xNudge Fully Loaded
Costs 190x the bet. The revolver holds three xNudge bullets and three xNudge multiplier bullets.
Revolver Mayhem
Costs 999x the bet and places six revolvers at the top and bottom of reels two to four, with an xNudge payload included.
Numbers and a volatility conflict
The only RTP on record is 96.02%, a house edge of 3.98%, or about $39.80 per $1,000 wagered. Hit frequency is 20.45%. Our catalogue rates volatility as High, while the studio text calls it extreme. We state both rather than choosing one; in practice, expect large swings.
At $0.20 a bet, 100 spins cost $0.80 on average. At $1 they cost $3.98, and at $5, or $500 wagered, $19.90. The max win is 20,000x the bet, which is $4,000 at $0.20, $20,000 at $1 and $100,000 at $5. The earlier Tombstone lists 96.19%, High volatility and an 11,456x cap, so the prequel has a slightly lower RTP and a higher ceiling. Seamen, also from Nolimit City, lists 96.04% with the same 20,000x cap.
Pros
- Sticky Win Respins can turn one win into a chain of wins
- xNudge multipliers carry across every spin of the bonus
- Three bonus tiers with six, eight or ten free spins
- Max win of 20,000x the bet
Cons
- Dense rules with many bullet types take time to learn
- Volatility is High in our catalogue and called extreme by the studio
- Stronger buy options cost 190x and 999x the bet
- No official free demo is listed in our catalogue
Verdict
Tombstone Begins is a technical slot in which sticky wins, revolver bullets and persistent xNudge multipliers aim at a 20,000x ceiling. The 96.02% RTP means a 3.98% house edge and the volatility is High, or extreme by the studio's own words, so sessions can be very uneven. Treat it as paid entertainment, keep stakes small enough for a long dry run, and read the rules fully before using any of the pricier buy options.
