Bull in a Rodeo review
Benny the Bull has ended up in a rodeo, and the game ties its features to his temper. Play'n GO released Bull in a Rodeo in 2022 on a 5x5 grid, with three moods that decide what a spin can add: Happy, Proud or Angry. Behind the story sits a mechanic that is mostly about Wilds: how many are added, where they stack, and how many more arrive when the Freedom Round opens.
Benny's three moods
The studio calls Benny's mood the foundation of the game, and the features adjust to it. Two of the three moods are described in the text available to us. The Angry mood is named but not explained, so the demo is the place to see what it does.
Happy Benny
A Happy Benny adds between two and six Wilds to the reels. It is the simplest of the moods: more substitutes on the board, which gives winning combinations more help.
Proud Benny
When Benny is Proud, a Special Bull Wild expands to fill the reel it lands on. That reel can then create an additional one to four Stacked Wilds. The feature rewards a landing on a good reel, since a full reel of Wilds on a 5x5 grid touches every row.
The Freedom Round
The bonus is not triggered by scatters of one kind. It needs two on the same spin: the Locked Gate Scatter and the Bull Scatter. When both land, the Bull smashes the gate and Wilds fill the reels.
Inside the Freedom Spins, every Bull feature plays out exactly as it does in the base game. The difference comes at the end of each feature, when three additional Rodeo Bull Wilds are added to the reels. The studio gives no spin count in the text we hold.
The maths
Five RTP versions are on record. The top is 96.28%, a house edge of 3.72%, with a cost of about $37.20 per $1,000 wagered. The others are 94.28% (5.72%, $57.20), 91.28% (8.72%, $87.20), 87.28% (12.72%, $127.20) and 84.29% (15.71%, $157.10).
Over 100 spins at $0.20, the top version costs $0.74 and the lowest costs $3.14. At $1 the figures are $3.72 and $15.71, and at $5 they are $18.60 and $78.55. Volatility is Very high and no max win is published, so the size of the best outcome is unknown.
Other 2022 Very high volatility slots
Cash of Command and Clash of Camelot both list the same 96.28% and Very high rating. Shamrock Miner has 96.29%, while Champions of Mithrune, Dio Killing the Dragon and Gigantoonz each list 96.25%. If the RTP is what matters, the differences between these games are tiny.
Pros
- Benny's mood gives each feature a clear identity
- Up to four Stacked Wilds can follow a Proud expansion
- Freedom Spins add three Rodeo Bull Wilds after each feature
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Very high volatility, so the board can stay quiet for long periods
- The Angry mood and the Freedom Spins count are not explained in the available text
- No max win published
Verdict
Bull in a Rodeo is a Wild-focused slot with a mood system for flavour. The Happy and Proud features are easy to read, and the Freedom Round adds more Wilds after each feature. A 96.28% RTP and Very high volatility put it level with its 2022 peers. The house edge is 3.72% at best, so treat it as paid entertainment and try the free demo to see which moods appear most.
