Tombstone review

Nudges drive this Wild West game. Released by Nolimit City in May 2019, Tombstone places three-high Outlaw Wilds on the middle reels, and each step they nudge into full view adds one to the win multiplier. That single mechanic feeds three different free spin rounds, from a short sticky-wild burst to a mode where the multiplier never resets. The result is a high volatility slot with an 11,456x ceiling.

A frontier town on five reels

The setting is the desert town of the title, with outlaws, dynamite, horseshoes and card suits on the reels. The studio material lists 243 ways to win, with matching symbols paying on adjacent reels from the left.

Wins are not tied to fixed lines, so the question on each spin is simply whether matching symbols connect from reel one outward. Bets range from 0.10 to 50 EUR per spin according to the studio material.

How the Outlaw Wilds pay

Outlaw Wilds are three symbols tall and land only on reels 2, 3 and 4. If one lands partly off the screen, it nudges until it is fully visible. Each step of that nudge raises its win multiplier by one, so a wild that slides two positions arrives with a larger multiplier than one that landed in place.

When more than one multiplied wild is part of the same win, their values add together. This makes the base game more interesting than the theme suggests, because a spin with two or three nudging wilds can pay well above line value. It is the xNudge mechanic that every bonus round builds on.

Outlaw Wilds

Three-high wilds on reels 2 to 4 that always nudge into full view. Each nudge step adds one to the win multiplier, and multipliers from several wilds in one win are added together. In the bonus rounds they become sticky.

Three ways into the bonus

Each mode keeps a different part of the nudge mechanic and holds it in place.

Two of the triggers are clearly documented. The exact combination that starts Bounty Spins is not spelled out in the studio material behind this page, so this review does not guess at it.

Justice Spins

A Sheriff badge on reel 1 together with a Marshall badge on reel 5 awards 3 free spins. Every Outlaw Wild that lands becomes sticky for the rest of the round, so the reels fill up with multiplied wilds over a short burst.

Gunslinger Spins

Three scatters award 10 free spins. Here the win multiplier is unlimited and does not reset between spins: every nudge of an Outlaw Wild adds one to it for the rest of the round. Scatters during the round add more spins.

Bounty Spins

Twelve free spins that combine the two other modes: Outlaw Wilds stay sticky as in Justice Spins, and the win multiplier grows and persists as in Gunslinger Spins. A scatter during the round adds one spin.

Numbers on the table

The RTP is 96.19% in a single version, giving a 3.81% house edge, or about $38.10 kept per $1,000 wagered over a long run.

Volatility is rated High. Hit frequency is listed at 20.44%, which works out to roughly one paying spin in five. The ceiling is 11,456x: $2,291.20 on a $0.20 stake and $11,456 on a $1 stake. Any round ends early if that cap is reached.

A hundred spins at $0.20 cost $0.76 on average; a hundred at $5 cost $19.05. With a High rating and a one-in-five hit rate, the real result of a session can be far worse or far better than those averages.

Sequels and similar maths

Three titles continue the name. Tombstone Begins lists 96.02% and 20,000x; Tombstone R.I.P lists 96.08% with Very high volatility and 300,000x; Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo's Revenge lists 96% and 500,000x, also Very high.

Closer to the original's profile are Deadwood xNudge (96.03%, High, 13,950x) and Loner (96.06%, High, 14,999x).

Pros

  • Nudging wilds add multipliers even in the base game
  • Three distinct free spin modes
  • Published hit frequency of 20.44%

Cons

  • High volatility means long losing runs are normal
  • The trigger for Bounty Spins is not documented in our source
  • No free demo on this page

Verdict

Tombstone gets a lot from one idea: wilds that nudge and gain a multiplier per step, carried into three bonus modes with sticky wilds, an unlimited multiplier or both. The RTP is 96.19% and the 11,456x cap is generous, but the High volatility rating and a 20.44% hit rate mean swings are the norm. It suits patient players with a fixed budget.
