Deadwood xNudge review

Deadwood xNudge sends bounty hunters and quick-draw gunslingers into a notorious Wild West town. Nolimit City builds it on a 3-4-4-4-3 layout and its xNudge engine: tall wild symbols that slide into view and gain a multiplier for each step. A choice of two free spin modes and a bonus buy sit on top. The catalogue rates the volatility High, while the studio's page text uses a stronger word, Extreme, and that difference is worth knowing before any stake is set.

A 3-4-4-4-3 layout and the Hunter Wild

The reels are not the same height. The rules sheet lists reel heights of three, four, four, four and three rows, and wins form from adjacent reels, counted from the left. The sheet does not print the exact number of ways in the base game, so none is stated here.

The centrepiece is the Hunter xNudge Wild. It is four rows high on every reel and always nudges until it is fully visible. Each nudge step adds 1 to its multiplier, and when several wilds sit in the same win their multipliers add together for the total line multiplier.

Shoot Out and the free spin modes

Two Sheriff badges set off the Shoot Out, which turns the low symbols, A to 10, into wilds on the middle reels. The studio's text adds that the badges can also upgrade a bonus already in progress.

Three scatters open the bonus and let the player choose between two modes of eight free spins each.

Hunter Spins

Eight free spins in which every spin must include at least one Hunter Wild, each carrying its nudge multipliers.

Gunslinger Spins

Eight free spins with a win multiplier that is unlimited and sticky. It stays for the whole bonus, and nudges push it higher. The studio describes this as the more volatile path.

Shoot Out Freespins

Triggered by two Sheriff badges together with three scatters, or by two badges during either mode. The low symbols on the middle reels act as wilds for the rest of the round, under the rules of the mode chosen.

Bonus buy

A Nolimit Bonus feature buy is available, so the free spin features can be purchased directly from the base game. The rules sheet gives no price, and notes that the buy may be removed in some regulated markets. Buying means paying for the feature up front instead of waiting for the free spins to arrive.

The maths

The headline RTP is 96.03%, a house edge of 3.97% and an average cost of about $39.70 per $1,000 wagered. The rules sheet also quotes lower settings of 94.15% and 90.13%, so confirm which one applies where you play. It splits the headline figure into 58.04% from the main game and 37.98% from the bonus.

Hit frequency is 40.17%. The free spins arrive about once in 197 spins and a 100x win about once in 1135. The max win is 13,950x the bet, or $2,790 at $0.20, $13,950 at $1 and $69,750 at $5. A 100-spin session averages a loss of $0.79 at $0.20, $3.97 at $1 and $19.85 at $5. Our catalogue records no free demo.

Other High-rated games

Ding Dong Death lists 96.08% and 14,280x, Loner 96.06% and 14,999x, and Whacked! 96.07% and 11,912x. Jingle Balls shows 96.1% and 12,250x, Blood and Shadow 2 shows 96.09% and 16,161x, and Catfish Hunters reaches 20,000x at 96.03%.

Pros

  • Nudging Hunter Wilds add 1 to the multiplier at each step, and wild multipliers add together
  • A choice between Hunter Spins and Gunslinger Spins
  • Bonus buy available
  • Hit frequency of 40.17%

Cons

  • Studio text calls the volatility Extreme while the catalogue says High
  • Lower RTP settings of 94.15% and 90.13% appear in the studio's rules
  • No free demo recorded in our catalogue
  • Bonus buy may not be offered in some regulated markets

Verdict

Deadwood xNudge is a high-variance Western slot: nudging wilds with additive multipliers, two eight-spin bonus modes and a 13,950x cap. Its 96.03% RTP carries a 3.97% house edge, and the studio's own rules mention weaker settings, so check the figure in the game. The catalogue says High and the studio text says Extreme. Either way, keep stakes small and treat each session as paid entertainment.
