Densho review
Densho is a 4x5 slot with ten paylines whose main idea is simple to state: a special symbol grows into a whole wild reel that carries a multiplier, but only when that growth would help make a win. In the bonus, trackers above each reel raise the minimum quality of those symbols. Hacksaw Gaming sets the game in an Asian adventure, though the rules text we hold says little more about the theme.
Multiplier Reels
Wins pay along 10 predefined lines from the left. When a Densho symbol lands, it expands into a Multiplier Reel, but only if the expanded reel would be part of at least one winning combination.
A Multiplier Reel is wild and substitutes for all other paying symbols. It applies its multiplier to every winning combination it is part of. If a combination includes more than one Multiplier Reel, their multipliers are added together before being applied. The value depends on the quality of the Densho symbol, and the source text we hold does not list the full values.
Free Spins with progression trackers
Three FS scatters landing together in the base game start the Free Spins with 10 spins. Each reel has a progression tracker above it, and the tracker level sets the lowest quality of Densho symbol that can land on that reel.
Upgrade symbols raise the tracker of the matching reel. As the minimum quality rises, so do the minimum multiplier values on the Multiplier Reels. In practice this means that a reel which has been upgraded cannot go back to a weak result.
Super Free Spins
Four FS scatters at once open the Super Free Spins, again with 10 spins and the same rules as the regular round. The difference is the start: the trackers begin at level 2, so every reel begins with a higher floor.
More FS scatters landing together during the bonus add spins: two award two extra spins, and three award four.
Four RTP versions
The headline RTP is 96.4%, a house edge of 3.6% and $36 lost per $1,000 wagered. Three further versions are recorded: 94.38% (house edge 5.62%), 92.33% (7.67%) and 88.34% (11.66%), costing $56.20, $76.70 and $116.60 per $1,000. The rules do not say which one a given game screen uses, so check it before play.
Over 100 spins, the headline version costs $0.72 at a $0.20 bet, $3.60 at $1 and $18 at $5. The lowest version costs $2.33, $11.66 and $58.30 for the same spins.
Cap, buys and neighbours
Volatility is High and the maximum win is 10,000 times the bet: $2,000 at $0.20, $10,000 at $1 and $50,000 at $5. A bonus buy and ante-style options exist, but the cost multipliers are not stated in our source. No free demo is listed on the official page.
Dark Summoning, from the same studio, lists 96.36% and 10,666x. Mighty Masks (96.3%), Grug Make Fire (96.19%) and Drop'em (96.21%) share the 10,000x cap, while Death Becomes You and Red Rascal are also rated High.
Pros
- Multiplier Reels add their values together when several are in one win
- Trackers make Densho symbols and multipliers improve during the bonus
- Super Free Spins start with trackers at level 2
- 96.4% headline RTP with High volatility
Cons
- Four RTP versions are recorded, down to 88.34% with a house edge of 11.66%
- Multiplier values and buy costs are not listed in our source
- No free demo is listed on the official page
Verdict
Densho keeps its rules compact: a Multiplier Reel that expands only when it helps, and a bonus in which the minimum quality of the symbol climbs. The 96.4% headline RTP is the version to look for, since the lowest recorded one has a house edge above 11%. Volatility is High and the cap is 10,000x, so treat it as a short-session, small-stake game.
