Chaos Crew 2 review
Chaos Crew 2 makes a point that most slots avoid: the bonus round has no symbols that pay. Hacksaw Gaming's sequel turns the screen into a multiplier collection exercise, where reel multipliers climb and are summed at the end into one final win. Around that sit a wild cat that multiplies line wins, a random Epic Drop and two bonus tiers that can be stacked three at a time. It also lists four different RTP versions, which deserves attention before the first spin.
Four RTP versions
The most important figure here is not the headline. The game exists at 96.27%, 94.22%, 92.41% and 88.28%, a house edge of 3.73%, 5.78%, 7.59% and 11.72% respectively. Which one you meet depends on the operator's configuration, and the game does not make it obvious.
In money terms, the average loss per $1,000 wagered is $37.30 at 96.27%, $57.80 at 94.22%, $75.90 at 92.41% and $117.20 at 88.28%. A hundred spins at a $1 bet cost $3.73 on the best version and $11.72 on the worst. At $5 the same hundred spins cost $18.65 or $58.60, and at $0.20 they cost $0.75 or $2.34.
How the base game pays
The grid is five reels by five rows with 19 fixed lines. Matching symbols must land on adjacent reels from the leftmost reel to pay. Volatility is not published in our catalogue, and no hit frequency is given because the studio's rules use template placeholders for it.
The Very Cranky Cat is a wild multiplier. It multiplies every winning combination it is part of, with values of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x or 20x. If several cats take part in the same win, their values multiply each other and the product is applied to the win.
The bonus family
Everything below is triggered from the base game, and every bonus is a multiplier exercise rather than a symbol-paying one.
Bonus
Three BONUS scatters at once start it. The game transforms and only non-paying symbols and multiplier symbols appear. A reel multiplier above each reel starts at 1x and climbs as multiplier symbols land. At the end all reel multipliers are added and multiplied by the bet to give the win.
Super Bonus
Four scatters start it. The rules match the Bonus, with one difference: the first spin is set to contain at least seven multiplier symbols, so it begins with a head start.
Best of Bonus
Three scatters landing together with a Best of Bonus scatter play three Bonus rounds in a row. Each result goes on a scoreboard beside the grid, and at the end only the highest value is paid.
Best of Super Bonus
The same idea with four scatters plus the Best of Bonus scatter. It runs three Super Bonus rounds and pays the highest of the three.
Epic Drop
A Drop of Epic Proportions can activate at random at the start of any base-game spin. The game morphs into the bonus mode and at least five multiplier symbols drop in and give their values. On the next spin the game returns to normal unless another Epic Drop is triggered.
This makes the base game less predictable than its 19 lines suggest, since a normal-looking spin can turn into a multiplier event with no scatters at all. The mechanism also shows how the whole game is built: the multiplier symbols, which the rules list at values from 2x to 20x, are the product, and the line wins around them are the supporting act. Most of the potential therefore sits in the bonus modes and the Epic Drop, not in the 19 lines themselves.
Max win and neighbours
The maximum win is 20,000x the bet: $4,000 at $0.20, $20,000 at $1 and $100,000 at $5. The original Chaos Crew lists 96.3% and a 10,000x cap, so the sequel doubles the ceiling. A feature buy exists with several options, but the rules do not print concrete prices.
Games with similar numbers include Rip City at 96.22% and 12,500x, Xmas Drop at 96.22% and 12,500x with Medium volatility, Eye of the Panda at 96.26% and 10,000x, and Mighty Masks at 96.3% and 10,000x with High volatility.
Pros
- The max win doubles that of the original, to 20,000x
- Several bonus tiers, including three-round scoreboard formats
- Random Epic Drop can create a multiplier event from a normal spin
- Cranky Cat multipliers stack by multiplication
Cons
- Four RTP versions, with the lowest at 88.28% and an 11.72% house edge
- Volatility and hit frequency are not published
- Feature buy prices are not stated in the rules
- No free demo is listed for this game
Verdict
Chaos Crew 2 rewards players who like multiplier build-ups more than symbol combinations. At 96.27% the house edge is 3.73%, which is typical, but the 88.28% version costs more than three times as much per spin on average. Volatility is not published, the cap is 20,000x, and the buy options carry no stated price. Check which RTP your game version shows and set a limit before you start.
