Big Bass Bonanza 1000 review

Big Bass Bonanza 1000 is Pragmatic Play's 2025 reworking of its 2020 fishing slot, and the number in the title is the point. Fish symbols now carry cash values of up to 1,000x the total bet, and the ceiling rises to 20,000x. The loop itself stays compact: catch scatters, enter the free spins, and let Wilds reel in every fish on the screen while a multiplier climbs with each retrigger.

Lines first, fish later

Wins in the base game are paid on paylines, counted from left to right on adjacent reels. The rules sheet in our source does not list the grid size or the number of lines, so we do not quote them.

The fish are ordinary paying symbols that also act as Money symbols. On every spin each fish takes a random value of 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x or 1,000x the total bet. In the base game that value is only on display: it can be won only during the free spins, which is where the whole design is pointed.

Reaching the bonus

Scatters open the free spins. Three award 10 spins, four award 15 and five award 20.

Two scatters without a third are not always the end of the story. The game can randomly try to bring in a third one in two ways. If the scatters can each drop one position without leaving the reel area, a respin may fire in which those reels shift down while the others spin again. Alternatively, a hook can pull one reel upward to show an extra scatter. Both are random, so they add chances rather than certainty.

Ante Bet

The bet multiplier can be set to 15x instead of the normal 10x. At 15x the reels carry more scatter symbols, so the free spins arrive naturally more often, but every spin costs half as much again and the Buy Free Spins option is switched off.

Buy Free Spins

Two purchases are offered. For 100x the total bet the free spins start with 3 scatters on the triggering spin. For 450x the bet the Super Free Spins start instead, a version in which Money symbols worth 1,000x the total bet appear more often.

Inside the free spins

The Wild only appears during the bonus. It substitutes for every symbol except the scatter, and each Wild that lands collects the values of all Money symbols visible at that moment. A single Wild landing next to several high-value fish is the main source of large wins.

Wilds are also counted. Every fourth Wild collected retriggers the round with 10 extra free spins and raises the win multiplier on collected values: 2x after the first retrigger, 3x after the second and 10x after the third, which is the last one. The studio adds that Wilds and Money symbols may randomly be placed on the grid after a free spin, giving rounds with few natural Wilds another way forward.

The structure explains where the risk sits. A round that never reaches its first retrigger pays fish values at face value; one that climbs to the 10x stage can turn modest fish into large sums.

Money Symbol

Every fish carries a random value from 2x up to 1,000x the total bet. The values show in the base game but are collected only by Wilds during the free spins, multiplied by whatever retrigger multiplier is active at the time.

What the maths says

The official rules give a theoretical RTP of 96.51%, the only version on record. The house edge is 3.49%, so a long run of play costs about $34.90 per $1,000 wagered. In 100-spin terms that is $0.70 on average at $0.20 per spin, $3.49 at $1 and $17.45 at $5. The Ante Bet raises the stake and so raises those averages in proportion.

Winnings are capped at 20,000x the bet: $4,000 at a $0.20 stake, $20,000 at $1 and $100,000 at $5. Pragmatic Play publishes no volatility rating here and there is no hit frequency in our data. With all fish values locked behind the bonus, expect a base game that does little on its own.

Against the original and its peers

The 2020 Big Bass Bonanza is the only other series title in our catalogue. It lists a slightly higher 96.71% RTP but a max win of 2,100x, so the sequel trades a little return for a ceiling almost ten times higher. Among similar games, Majestic Express - Gold Run from 2025 shares the 20,000x cap at 96.5%, and Angel vs Sinner from 2024 offers 15,000x at 96.56%.

Pros

  • Fish values reach 1,000x the total bet
  • Retrigger multipliers rise to 2x, 3x and 10x during the free spins
  • Random respin and hook features can add a missing third scatter
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Fish values can only be won in the free spins
  • Bonus purchases cost 100x or 450x the bet
  • No published volatility rating

Verdict

Big Bass Bonanza 1000 keeps the original's collect-the-fish formula and raises the stakes: fish values up to 1,000x, a retrigger ladder to 10x and a 20,000x ceiling. The 96.51% RTP means a 3.49% house edge, a touch below the first game's figure, and no volatility rating is published. Use the free demo to see how often the bonus arrives, and treat each session as entertainment with a fixed budget.
