Chaos Crew review
Hacksaw Gaming introduces this one with a single line about the gritty world of two characters, Cranky and Sketchy, and the rules do the rest. Chaos Crew runs on a 5x5 grid with 15 paylines. Its wild, the Cranky Cat, carries a hidden multiplier that can stack with others on the same line. The free spins drop line wins altogether and build numbers above each reel instead, with a counter that resets to three on every hit.
Lines across a square grid
Matching symbols pay along 15 fixed lines on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. Fifteen lines on a 5x5 board is not many, so wins depend heavily on the wild landing in the right place.
The official game info states that the same win requirements apply in the bonus unless stated otherwise, and that each wager is eligible for every winning combination. The paytable inside the game lists how many of each symbol are needed.
Cranky Cat
The wild of the base game, substituting for everything except the free spins symbol. It is also a mystery multiplier: on landing it takes a value of x2, x3 or x5 and multiplies the line win it is part of. Two or more Cranky Cats on the same line multiply each other, so x3 and x5 together make 15x.
A bonus that runs until it goes cold
Three free spins symbols switch the game into its bonus mode. It begins with 3 spins, shown on a meter to the right of the grid. Any spin that lands a winning symbol resets the meter to 3, so the round only ends after three non-winning spins in a row.
The payout works differently from the base game. A number sits above each reel, and the symbols that land during the round change those numbers, applied from left to right and top to bottom. When the mode ends, all displayed numbers are added together and multiplied by the bet. Our copy of the rules is cut off before the full list of bonus symbols, so the exact effects of each one cannot be given here.
The structure explains where the 10,000x maximum feature win comes from: a long round keeps building the reel totals instead of paying spin by spin.
Three RTP settings to watch for
The game exists at 96.3%, 92.4% and 88.4%. The matching house edges are 3.7%, 7.6% and 11.6%, which means about $37, $76 or $116 lost per $1,000 wagered over time. On 100 spins at $1, the average cost is $3.70 at the top setting and $11.60 at the lowest; at $5 it is $18.50 against $58. The setting is chosen by the operator, so checking the game info screen is worth a few seconds.
No volatility label is published.
Buy options and the cap
The rules confirm a bonus buy and ante-style feature spins, but their prices are injected at runtime and are not in the static rules we hold. Check the cost on screen before using either.
The cap is 10,000x the bet, which is $2,000 at $0.20, $10,000 at $1 and $50,000 at $5. It is the upper limit of a round that rarely reaches it.
Sequel and similar games
Chaos Crew 2 lists 96.27% and a higher 20,000x cap. Among similar games, Mighty Masks matches the 96.3% RTP, and Densho lists 96.4%; both are rated High and capped at 10,000x.
Pros
- Cranky Cat wilds carry x2, x3 or x5 multipliers that multiply each other
- Free spins keep going as long as wins arrive, resetting to 3 each time
- 10,000x maximum feature win
Cons
- Three RTP versions, the lowest at 88.4% with an 11.6% edge
- Bonus buy and ante prices are not in the published rules
- No volatility rating or free demo in our data
Verdict
Chaos Crew keeps the base game lean, 15 lines on a 5x5 grid, and leans on the Cranky Cat wild, whose x2 to x5 multipliers can stack on one line. The bonus builds reel totals until three dead spins in a row, with a 10,000x cap. Its best RTP is 96.3%, and two lower versions exist. Confirm the version in play and keep stakes within a set budget.
