Benny the Beer review
Hacksaw Gaming says something is brewing in the Biergarten, and what brews is stacks. Land the right special symbol and a whole reel fills with copies of one paying symbol, anywhere from two to ten high. With the number of ways listed at 100,000, tall stacks matter a great deal. The catalogue rates the volatility as Medium, and it records three RTP versions, so the choice of version is as important as the features.
How Stackways works
Wins come from matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right, and the rules list 100,000 possible ways. Stackways symbols are the engine. Landing one on a reel fills that reel with a stack of paying symbols, from 2 to 10.
There are two kinds. Normal symbols carry 2, 3 or 4 and the revealing kind carries 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10. The stacked symbol is not random: the game picks whichever symbol would give the longest winning combination among those on the reels when the Stackways symbol activates.
Two bonus books
The number of free spin scatters decides which book opens, and both begin with 10 free spins. Our mechanics data lists no free spins for this game, but the studio's rules describe both books, so we follow the rules.
Book of Stackways
Three scatters landing together open it. At the start, 2 paying symbols are chosen at random as Special symbols. When one of them lands on at least 3 reels at once, indicators under those reels reveal a number from 2 to 10, and the reels are stacked with that many of the winning symbol.
Super Book of Stackways
Four scatters open it. Here, 4 paying symbols become Special symbols. The revealed value, again from 2 to 10, is the number of stacks added to the reel above the number. More Special symbols mean more chances for stacks to appear.
Options we cannot price
The game has an ante-style option and five bonus-buy variants. The prices are filled in by the game itself and are not in the data we hold, so we quote none. Check them on the buy screen first.
Three RTP versions
The catalogue lists 96.17%, 94.17% and 92.28%, with house edges of 3.83%, 5.83% and 7.72%. The studio's rules page contains only a placeholder, so we cannot say which version a given site runs.
Per $1,000 wagered the average loss is $38.30 at the best version and $77.20 at the lowest, about double. In 100 spins at $1 that is $3.83 against $7.72, and at $5 it is $19.15 against $38.60. The max win is 10,000x the bet, or $2,000 at $0.20, $10,000 at $1 and $50,000 at $5.
Where it sits among similar games
Xmas Drop lists Medium volatility with 96.22% and a 12,500x cap. Vending Machine lists Medium with 96.28% and 5,000x, and Le Bandit lists Medium at 96.34%. Ronin Stackways, rated Low, lists 96.35% and 5,000x. Drop'em is rated High with 96.21% and 10,000x, and Immortal Desire lists 96.24% with the same 10,000x.
Pros
- Stacks of 2 to 10 symbols can fill a whole reel
- Medium volatility alongside a 10,000x max win
- Two bonus books, both starting with 10 free spins
Cons
- The lowest version returns 92.28%, a 7.72% house edge
- Buy and ante prices are not stated in the data we hold
- No official free demo is listed in our catalogue
Verdict
Benny the Beer is easy to grasp: tall stacks, a long list of ways and two bonus books that differ in how many symbols can stack. Medium volatility and a 10,000x ceiling are a good pairing on paper. The best version returns 96.17% with a 3.83% house edge, while the lowest costs 7.72%, so the version shown in the game matters. It is paid entertainment, and the budget should be set before the first spin.
