Roadkill review
Roadkill turns a ways slot into a small battle. Cars cross the reels, and three animals, Papa Bear, Fred the Rabbit and Deer Joe, jump around as wilds to stop them. Hearts act as the life bar, so bonus modes last until the hearts run out instead of for a fixed number of spins. Nolimit City built the whole game around that idea, and it changes how a session reads.
Cars against Jumping Wilds
The grid is 5x3, and wins are ways paid from the left. Green and red cars drive across the reels. A green car has 1 hit point and a red car has 2. The animals work as Jumping Wilds on reels 2 to 4 and block the cars. A car that gets through damages your hearts, and when the hearts are gone the mode ends.
When an animal stops a car it takes damage, but it also feeds its own collector. A full collector upgrades the animal, and each upgrade has a different effect. Papa Bear gains a permanent multiplier, with a general multiplier of up to 5x. Fred the Rabbit sets traps. Deer Joe splits symbols across whole rows.
Three modes, one heart system
Scatters decide which mode you enter. Each mode is a step up from the one before.
Because modes last until the hearts are gone, there is no spin count to read. How long a round runs depends on how well the animals hold off the cars.
Call to Arms
Two scatters start it with 2 hearts. It works as a respin mode, and landing the third scatter moves the round up to Team Assemble.
Team Assemble
Three scatters give 3 hearts, and a red car arrives on every fifth spin. If all three Jumping Wilds are upgraded, the game moves on to Junkyard Assault.
Junkyard Assault
This top mode sends a red car on every spin. The three collectors merge into one total collector. When it reaches 20 hits, a Roadblock turns the reels into row wilds and then a 3x3 battle wild. The mode ends when the hearts are gone.
Buying in
Three purchases are listed. Team Assemble costs 60x the bet, Lucky Draw costs 200x and Junkyard Assault costs 500x. The sheet also mentions a general buy band of 100x to 500x, which does not line up exactly with those prices, so check the in-game prices before relying on either. No ante bet is offered.
The numbers, and two volatility labels
The RTP is 96.04%, so the house edge is 3.96%, or about $39.60 per $1,000 wagered. A 100-spin session costs $0.79 at $0.20, $3.96 at $1 and $19.80 at $5. The hit frequency is 23.37%.
The cap, called Kings of the Road, is 11,091x the bet: $2,218.20 at $0.20, $11,091 at $1 and $55,455 at $5. Our catalogue rates the game Medium, while the studio text describes it as High. Since the sources disagree, do not lean on either label. No official free demo is listed in our data.
Medium-rated Nolimit neighbours
Walk of Shame and Benji Killed In Vegas also list 96.04%, with caps of 9,822x and 10,000x. Kiss My Chainsaw lists 96.1% and 10,900x. Space Donkey has 96.07% and 14,649x, Breakout 96.07% and 20,000x and The Cage 96.05% and 25,000x. Roadkill's 11,091x sits mid-range among them.
Pros
- A distinctive heart and hit-point system rather than a plain free spins round
- Three escalating modes with an upgrade path
- Bonus buy options starting at 60x
- Hit frequency of 23.37% is listed
Cons
- Catalogue says Medium and studio text says High, so the swing level is unclear
- Round length depends on hearts, so it cannot be predicted from a spin count
- The buy prices in the sheet are not fully consistent
- No official free demo listed
Verdict
Roadkill is built for players who like a game with rules to learn. The 96.04% RTP gives a 3.96% house edge, and an 11,091x cap sits mid-range among Medium-rated Nolimit peers. The volatility is labelled Medium in the catalogue and High by the studio text, so assume it can swing. Keep stakes modest, and treat the 500x buy as a deliberate high-cost choice.
