Wild West Gold Megaways review
Wild West Gold Megaways is the sequel that puts the ranch on the Megaways engine. The original Wild West Gold, from 2020, lists a 96.51% RTP and a 10,000x cap. The sequel changes the format to up to 117,649 ways, lowers the cap to 5,000x and keeps sticky wilds as the main bonus idea. The result is a different trade, which this review sets out feature by feature.
Megaways in the base game
Reels 1 to 6 can show up to 7 symbols each, which gives a maximum of 117,649 ways. Wins are paid for adjacent matching symbols counted from the left. The wild appears only on reels 2 to 5 and replaces every symbol except the scatter.
Each wild that hits can carry a random multiplier of x2, x3 or x5. If two or more wilds are part of the same winning combination, their multipliers multiply each other. The studio also mentions a double chance feature, which matches the ante bet described below.
Free spins with sticky wilds
Three or more scatters anywhere on the screen award 7 free spins. The scatters also pay on their own: 3 pay 4x the total bet, 4 pay 20x, 5 pay 100x and 6 pay 500x.
The key change in the round is that wilds stay. Whenever a wild hits, it gets a random x2, x3 or x5 multiplier and remains on the reels until the round ends, changing size as the reel height changes on later spins. Reels with sticky wilds also keep a minimum size equal to the number of wilds on them.
Sticky wilds
Wilds of any size keep their random multiplier and stay on the reels for the entire round. Because reel heights change on every spin, a sticky wild's size changes too, and a reel with several wilds cannot shrink below that count. The studio says retriggers are part of the bonus, but the pack gives no rule for them.
Ante bet
Raising the bet multiplier to 25x per line increases the chance of landing scatters. The price of this option is not stated beyond that, and there is no bonus buy in this game.
Cost and cap
The RTP is 96.44%, a house edge of 3.56%, or about $35.60 per $1,000 wagered. A 100-spin session costs $0.71 at a $0.20 bet, $3.56 at $1 and $17.80 at $5.
The maximum win is 5,000x the bet: $1,000 at $0.20, $5,000 at $1 and $25,000 at $5. The official rules state the cap too. No volatility label is published.
Against the original and other Megaways
Moving from Wild West Gold (96.51%, 10,000x) to this sequel gives up a little RTP and halves the cap, in exchange for the Megaways format. Among other Megaways games with a 5,000x cap, Extra Juicy Megaways lists 96.42% and High volatility, Elemental Gems Megaways 96.51% and 5 Lions Megaways, Chilli Heat Megaways and 5 Frozen Charms Megaways 96.5%. Buffalo King Megaways lists 96.52%.
Pros
- Up to 117,649 ways with wild multipliers of x2, x3 or x5
- Sticky wilds in the free spins keep their multipliers
- Scatters pay on their own, up to 500x the bet for six
- Free official demo available
Cons
- The cap of 5,000x is half that of the original
- RTP of 96.44% is slightly below the original's 96.51%
- No volatility label is published
- The free spins round begins with only 7 spins
Verdict
Wild West Gold Megaways is a practical Megaways follow-up with a clear idea: multiplier wilds that stay in the free spins. The 96.44% RTP leaves a 3.56% house edge, and a 5,000x cap is lower than the original's. Volatility is not published, so use the free demo to judge the pace. Treat the ante bet as a paid choice, not a way to raise the return.
