Cowboy Coins review

A western bounty hunt is the setting, but the part worth reading about is the bonus. Cowboy Coins runs a bank of ways in the base game, then switches the free spins to a board of money symbols where wins no longer come from matching lines. Three respins keep resetting as new symbols land, and four upgrade features around the edge of the board decide how big the final tally gets. The studio does not publish a max win or a volatility label for it.

A grid description that does not agree with itself

The sources disagree here, so both are reported. The studio's marketing text describes six reels and 20 paylines. The official rules and our catalogue describe a ways game instead: the rules call it a Megaways layout with 2304 ways, paying left to right on adjacent reels, with a bet multiplier of 20. Our catalogue lists it as a ways slot, not a Megaways one.

We cannot tell which description reflects the shipped game. The official rules are the more detailed document, but check the paytable in the demo before relying on either figure.

Symbols and the base game

The rules list sixteen symbols: ten regular ones, one scatter and five money symbols. Other entries cover a coin, a payer and a collector symbol. The scatter does not pay, and money symbols do not pay the way regular symbols do. In the base game a coin symbol has to be present together with a payer symbol, a collector symbol, or both, so the cash side of the game depends on several pieces landing at once.

The free spins round

Three or more scatters start the bonus. It opens with three spins, and that count resets to three every time a new symbol lands during the round. In this mode the rules say there are no ways wins: only money symbols matter. The scatters that triggered the round turn into regular coin symbols, super coin symbols, or both. The coin, payer and collector gain super versions here, and two symbols appear only in the free game: a double booster and a multi collector.

Dynamite

According to the studio, dynamite multipliers are applied to random symbols on the board. It is one of the four features placed around the central board of wins, each offering upgrades that increase the size of the result.

Money Bags

Money bags award additional cash prizes. The studio describes them simply as more cash, with no extra condition attached.

Safes

Safes collect prizes. The studio lists them among the four upgrade features, and their role is to gather value rather than to add a multiplier.

Badges

Badges multiply all wins gained so far in the round. Because the multiplier applies to the running total, the size of the result depends on how much has already been collected when a badge lands.

What a session costs

One RTP is on record, 96.08%, which means a house edge of 3.92%. Over a long run that is about $39.20 lost per $1,000 wagered. In shorter terms, 100 spins at $0.20 cost $0.78 on average, 100 spins at $1 cost $3.92, and 100 spins at $5, or $500 wagered, cost $19.60.

Neither a max win nor a volatility rating is published for this title, so there is no way to turn the bonus into a money figure at a given bet. The demo is the only fair test of how the three-respin board behaves.

Similar games

Pragmatic Play titles with comparable RTPs include Blade and Fangs at 96.05% with a 5,000x cap, Mammoth Gold Megaways at 96.03% with 10,000x, and Blazing Wilds Megaways at 96.06% with 10,000x, released in 2024. Chase for Glory sits at 96% with a 7,887x cap.

Pros

  • Free spins turn into a collection board with four upgrade features
  • Respins reset to three whenever a new symbol lands
  • Badges multiply every win collected so far in the round
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Studio text and official rules disagree on paylines versus 2304 ways
  • No max win or volatility label is published
  • Money symbols pay only through the coin mechanic, which is harder to follow than plain line wins

Verdict

Cowboy Coins is two games in one: a ways game in the base round and a coin-collection board in the bonus. The 96.08% RTP is listed, but the missing max win and volatility figures, plus the clash between the paylines in the marketing text and the 2304 ways in the rules, make it hard to judge swings in advance. Use the free demo first, and treat it as paid entertainment with a 3.92% house edge.
