Sugar Rush review
In Sugar Rush the board itself remembers. Pragmatic Play's 2022 cluster game runs on a 7x7 grid, and every spot where a winning symbol explodes is marked. Explode there again and the spot gains a multiplier that keeps doubling, up to x128. In the base game those marks fade after each sequence; in the free spins they stay for the entire round, which is the idea everything else is built around.
Clusters on a 7x7 board
Wins come from connected blocks of 5 or more matching symbols rather than from lines. The official rules describe a square 7x7 playing area, seven columns of seven symbols each.
Each paid cluster is removed, the symbols above drop down and new ones fill the top. A fresh cluster formed by that drop pays again, and the process repeats until nothing new connects. All payouts from one base spin are added together at the end of the sequence.
How the marked spots work
This is the mechanic that sets the game apart. When a winning symbol explodes, its position is marked. The second explosion on that same position adds a x2 multiplier to it, and each further explosion there doubles the value, all the way to x128.
A multiplier applies to any winning cluster that forms on top of it. When a cluster covers more than one multiplied spot, the values are added together rather than multiplied by each other. In the base game, marked spots and their multipliers are cleared once the tumbling sequence ends, so a spin has to chain several wins in the same area before the numbers become meaningful.
Multiplier Spots Feature
An exploding winning symbol marks its spot. A second explosion on the same spot adds a x2 multiplier, which doubles with each further explosion up to x128. Multipliers boost clusters that land on them, and several in one cluster are summed. In the base game they reset after the sequence.
Tumble Feature
Winning symbols disappear after each payout, the remaining symbols fall and new ones drop in from above. Tumbling continues until no new winning combination appears, and the total for the base spin is paid once it stops.
Free spins that keep the board
The scatter table is generous in range: 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 scatters award 10, 12, 15, 20 or 30 free spins respectively. The same table applies during the round, so landing 3 to 7 scatters inside the feature adds another 10 to 30 spins.
What changes is persistence. During free spins, marked spots and their multipliers stay in place from one spin to the next until the round ends, and they can keep doubling with later tumbles. A spot that reaches a high value early can therefore boost many later clusters. Special reels are used throughout the feature.
Free Spins
Three to seven scatters trigger 10 to 30 free spins. Marked spots and multipliers no longer reset between spins and can continue to grow across the round. Landing three to seven scatters again during the feature adds the same number of extra spins.
What the figures say
One RTP is listed in our catalogue, 96.5%, so the house edge is 3.5%. Per $1,000 wagered, $35 is the long-run average retained. The rules document cited in the pack names a theoretical 94.5%, a reminder that operators may run a different setting, which the game's paytable will show.
Wins are capped at 5,000x the bet: $1,000 at $0.20, $5,000 at $1, $25,000 at $5. Pragmatic Play publishes no volatility rating for it in our data. A hundred $1 spins cost $3.50 on average, and a hundred $5 spins $17.50, though any single session can land far from that.
There is no ante bet and no bonus purchase in the official rules, so the free spins arrive only through scatters.
Other Sugar Rush titles
Sugar Rush Xmas (2023) repeats the 96.5% RTP and 5,000x cap. Sugar Rush 1000 (2024) lists 96% with a 25,000x ceiling, and Sugar Rush Super Scatter (2026) is recorded at 96.58%.
Among similar numbers elsewhere in the studio, Fruit Party (2020) shows 96.5% and 5,000x, and Gates of Hades (2025) lists 96.52% with up to 10,000x.
Who it is for
The game rewards patience more than quick reflexes. Base-game multipliers vanish after each sequence, so most spins are modest, and the larger outcomes depend on a free spins round where marked spots survive and climb. Players who like to see a board build up over a bonus will find the logic clear; anyone wanting a buy option or frequent large hits should look elsewhere.
Pros
- Grid spot multipliers double up to x128 and stack by addition
- In free spins the marked spots persist for the entire round
- Wide free spins range of 10 to 30, with retriggers on the same table
- Free official demo available
Cons
- No bonus buy or ante option
- Base-game multipliers reset after every sequence
- Wins are capped at 5,000x the bet
Verdict
Sugar Rush turns the grid into the feature: marked spots grow multipliers to x128, and in the free spins they stay put for the whole round. The listed RTP is 96.5% and no volatility rating is published, but the reliance on the bonus points to an uneven payout pattern. With a 5,000x cap and a 3.5% house edge, it is best tried in the free demo first and played with a firm budget.
