Flight Mode review

Nolimit City sets this slot on a disastrous budget flight, complete with turbulence and awkward seatmates. Under the joke sits a dense mechanic stack: a six-reel, four-row grid whose bottom row starts locked, tumbling wins that raise a next-multiplier, bombs that unlock the top prize, and a black-hole feature called xHole. Six purchasable boosters let you shape the spin before it starts. The maximum win is 5,051x the bet, and the sources disagree about how volatile it is.

The grid and how it pays

Flight Mode is a ways slot on six reels with four rows each, and wins pay from left to right. The bottom row begins locked. It holds the Max Win symbols, which matter later in the bonus and in the God Mode purchase.

Winning symbols explode and new ones fall in, so one spin can chain several wins. Each win in a chain pushes the upcoming multiplier up, and that stored value is the engine of the game. The rules say it is applied through the xHole and wild path described below.

Bombs, increasers and the xHole

The game has several special symbols that act when the board goes cold or when a chain is under way.

Bomb

When a spin produces no win, bombs explode. They clear the symbols in their own row and reel, and they unlock the hidden Max Win symbol on the reel where they detonated. Unlocking all six Max Win symbols is the route to the top prize.

Multiplier Increaser

On landing, this symbol adds 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 to the next multiplier and then disappears. A golden version doubles the next multiplier instead. It is a second way, besides winning, to raise the stored value.

xHole

When there are no wins, bombs or increasers on the board, the xHole can activate. It pulls in all the main symbols, drops them back in random positions carrying the next multiplier, and then turns into a wild that also carries it. It is the clearest example of the stored multiplier being cashed in.

xGOD

The rules say this feature can award the maximum win instantly, in the base game or the bonus, without any of the other features being involved.

Flee Spins

Three, four or five scatters award 6, 9 or 12 Flee Spins. The progress of the next multiplier is kept from spin to spin, and any Max Win symbols unlocked by bombs stay unlocked for the whole round. The round ends when the spins run out or when 5,051x is reached.

After the bonus an Extra Spin may be offered, with no scatters on it. Its cost comes from the current next multiplier and must not exceed the total win. Taking it keeps the multiplier state alive for one more spin.

Boosters and bonus buys

Instead of a classic ante bet, the game sells upgrades before the spin, listed here in order of price.

Scatter booster costs 3.30x the bet and places a scatter on reel two for that spin. The xHole booster costs 6x and does the same with the xHole. Print Spins costs 11x and starts the spin with a 30x multiplier on every paying symbol. Printier Spins costs 90x and starts at 268x, and Printiest Spins costs 270x and starts at 911x. God Mode costs 911x and sets you chasing the unlock of all six Max Win symbols through bombs. These are paid shortcuts, not cheaper routes to the same expected result.

The numbers, and a conflict

The listed RTP is 96.07%, a house edge of 3.93%, about $39.30 lost per $1,000 wagered. The hit frequency is 20.17%. At a $0.20 bet the 5,051x maximum is $1,010.20, at $1 it is $5,051 and at $5 it is $25,255. A hundred spins cost $0.79, $3.93 and $19.65 on average at those three bets.

On volatility the sources disagree. Our catalogue labels the game Low, while the studio's own page text calls it High. We cannot tell which label is better founded, so both are reported. A hit frequency of 20.17% means roughly one spin in five pays something.

Blood and Shadow (96.13%, 6,666x), Bonus Bunnies (96.14%, 6,950x), Tomb of Akhenaten (96.09%, 20,932x) and Monkey's Gold xPays (96.02%, 12,683x) are all labelled Low in the catalogue. Kiss My Chainsaw (96.1%, 10,900x) and Space Donkey (96.07%, 14,649x) are Medium. All of them have a higher cap than Flight Mode.

Pros

  • Next-multiplier carries between spins and through the whole Flee Spins round
  • Six boosters and buys, from 3.30x to 911x the bet
  • Unlocked Max Win symbols persist during the bonus
  • Hit frequency of 20.17% is published

Cons

  • Volatility is labelled Low in our catalogue but High by the studio
  • Max win of 5,051x is lower than every similar Nolimit City title listed
  • No free demo is flagged for this game in our data
  • Complex rules with many linked features

Verdict

Flight Mode is a mechanic-heavy tumbling slot with a 96.07% RTP, a 5,051x cap and a hit frequency of 20.17%. The volatility rating depends on who you ask: Low in our catalogue, High on the studio's page. The boosters and bonus buys let you spend up to 911x the bet to alter the odds of reaching the top prize, but the house edge of 3.93% applies regardless. Treat it as paid entertainment and read the rules carefully first.
