Temple of Torment review

Temple of Torment stages a divine clash between Egyptian gods, and Hacksaw Gaming turns it into a game of expanding wilds. The grid is 5x4 with 14 paylines. Golden Scarab symbols stretch up or down to the edge of the reels, wild symbols they pass through turn into multipliers, and two bonus games, one for Anubis and one for Ra, change how those multipliers behave. The studio's own description is a single line, so the rules carry nearly everything here.

Golden Scarabs and wild multipliers

A win needs matching symbols along one of the 14 fixed lines, on adjacent reels, counted from the left. The special piece is the Wild Golden Scarab. It expands only when that would help: all scarabs in view expand if at least one expanded scarab would be part of a winning combination. If a direction produces a win, the scarab goes that way, either upward or downward to the edge of the grid. An expanded scarab counts as a wild on every position it covers.

The other half of the system is the Wild symbol. When a Golden Scarab expands through one, that wild activates and becomes a multiplier applied to the whole expanded symbol. The possible values are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x and 200x. If a winning combination holds more than one multiplied scarab, the values are added together first and then applied to the win.

Anguish of Anubis

At least three Anubis scatters landing together in the base game start this bonus. Three award 10 free spins, four award 12 and five award 14.

Better odds for scarabs and wilds

Inside the round, Golden Scarab and wild symbols have a better chance of landing than in the base game. Every wild that lands stays sticky until the feature ends.

Extra spins

Additional Anubis scatters landing together during the round award more free spins. The rules extract is cut off before the exact table.

Reign of Ra

Ra works the other way. Three, four or five Ra scatters in the base game award the same 10, 12 or 14 free spins, but the multiplier logic changes. All activated wild multipliers are added into a total multiplier shown above the reels. Each time a wild multiplier joins the total, that total is activated and applies to every win on the current spin.

Buying in

A bonus buy exists, with four named options in the game's configuration, and the rules reference ante-style choices. The static rules do not print prices or the return when buying, so we cannot quote either. Check both in the game before using them.

Four RTP versions

The highest version returns 96.2%, a house edge of 3.8% and about $38 lost per $1,000 wagered. The others are 94.09% (5.91%, $59.10 per $1,000), 92.19% (7.81%, $78.10) and 88.24% (11.76%, $117.60). The lowest therefore costs about three times as much as the highest. Which one you meet depends on the operator.

Over 100 spins, a $0.20 bet costs $0.76 on the top version and $2.35 on the lowest. At $1 that is $3.80 against $11.76, and at $5 (a $500 total) $19 against $58.80. The cap is 10,000x the bet, which is $2,000 at $0.20, $10,000 at $1 and $50,000 at $5. Volatility is not published.

Other 10,000x games

Temple of Torment has no series entries in the catalogue. Games with the same cap include Eye of the Panda at 96.26%, Beast Below at 96.29% and Chaos Crew at 96.3%. Grug Make Fire (96.19%), Mighty Masks (96.3%) and Densho (96.4%) carry the same cap and a High rating.

Pros

  • Expanding Golden Scarabs with wild multipliers from 2x to 200x
  • Two bonus games with distinct multiplier rules
  • Max win of 10,000x the bet
  • Bonus buy available

Cons

  • Four RTP versions, and the lowest has an 11.76% house edge
  • No volatility rating is published and no official demo is recorded in our data
  • Buy prices and the return when buying are not stated in the static rules

Verdict

Temple of Torment is built on expanding scarabs and a long ladder of wild multipliers, with a 10,000x ceiling. The RTP is 96.2% at best and 88.24% at worst, and volatility is not published, so the operator's version matters a great deal: roughly $38 against $117.60 lost per $1,000 wagered. Check the version first, set a firm budget, and treat any session as paid entertainment.
