Starlight Princess review

Set among the clouds, Starlight Princess is a 2021 Pragmatic Play release that pays for 8 to 30 matching symbols anywhere on the screen. Its signature is a pool of random multipliers worth 2x to 500x that can turn up on any spin. There is no bonus purchase here, only an optional ante that makes the free spins easier to reach, which keeps the game closer to a plain spin-and-wait design.

Reading the grid

Position does not matter. The studio describes wins as groups of 8 to 30 identical symbols landing anywhere at the same time, so there are no lines to learn and no left-to-right rule.

A win removes its symbols and lets the rest fall, with new ones arriving from above. The game keeps doing this for as long as each new layout contains a winning group, and the balance is updated once the sequence is over. In practice one stake may be paid several times in a row, or not at all.

Where the multipliers come in

Multiplier symbols appear on all reels in both modes, each carrying a random value between 2x and 500x. During normal play they wait until the tumbling sequence finishes. Then their values are added up and the sum multiplies whatever the sequence won. If the sequence won nothing, the multipliers have nothing to act on.

That rule shapes the whole game. A long chain of small group wins topped by two or three multipliers is how a modest spin turns into a large one, and a spin with high multipliers but no group pays nothing.

Tumble Feature

Every win clears the winning symbols, lets the rest drop and refills the empty spaces from above. The chain continues until a layout produces no new win, and all payouts from a base spin are credited together once it stops.

Ante Bet

An optional setting that raises the bet multiplier by 25%, to 25x bet per line. In return, scatter symbols become more likely to land, which raises the chance of reaching the free spins. It changes the cost of every spin, not the prize table.

Inside the bonus round

Four scatters or more open the feature with 15 free spins, played on special reels. The multiplier logic changes: when a multiplier symbol hits on a spin that wins, its value is added to a total multiplier. That total then stays in play for the rest of the round and is applied again whenever a later winning spin brings a new multiplier.

Three or more scatters during the bonus award 5 extra spins. Because the total can only rise, a round that collects multipliers early has more potential in its later spins, while a round that collects few stays close to base-game values.

The official rules mention no way to buy entry, so the ante is the only way to influence how often the bonus arrives.

Free Spins

Four or more scatters award 15 free spins. Each multiplier that lands on a winning spin joins a running total multiplier that boosts later wins for the remainder of the feature. Three or more scatters inside the round add 5 spins.

Money matters

Starlight Princess lists a single RTP of 96.5%. Its house edge is 3.5%, which works out to $35 retained per $1,000 bet in the long run. The rules document in the pack quotes a theoretical return of 89.51%, a much lower figure, so confirming the RTP shown in the game's own info panel before playing is sensible.

The top prize is 5,000x the stake: $1,000 at $0.20 a spin or $25,000 at $5. A volatility rating is not published. As a cost guide, 100 spins at $0.20 put $20 through the game and keep about $0.70 on average; the same number of spins at $5 averages $17.50.

Sequels and close matches

Three follow-ups appear in the catalogue: Starlight Princess 1000 from 2023 (96.5%, up to 15,000x), Starlight Princess Pachi from 2024 (96.04%) and Starlight Princess Super Scatter from 2025 (96.5%).

On numbers alone, Gates of Olympus from the same year is a twin, with the same 96.5% RTP and 5,000x cap. Sword of Ares (2022) lists 96.4% and a 10,000x ceiling if a higher cap matters to you.

Pros

  • Wins for 8 to 30 matching symbols anywhere on screen
  • Multipliers from 2x to 500x can land in the base game too
  • Free spin multipliers accumulate for the whole round
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • No bonus buy, so reaching free spins depends on scatters or the pricier ante
  • Wins are capped at 5,000x
  • The pack also quotes an 89.51% theoretical RTP, so the version in use varies

Verdict

Starlight Princess keeps things lean: groups of 8 to 30 symbols pay anywhere, multipliers of 2x to 500x can appear at any time, and in the free spins they build a lasting total. The listed RTP is 96.5% and no volatility rating is given, though the payout shape clearly depends on rare multiplier runs. Check the RTP inside the game and treat the 3.5% house edge as the price of entertainment.
