Sticky Bees review

Fruit clusters and bees share a 7×7 board in this 2023 Pragmatic Play slot. Matching fruit pays, winners tumble away, and the unusual part sits underneath the symbols: random circles are marked on the board, and a bee landing on one converts the other circles into wilds. In the bonus those wild positions stick around from spin to spin.

Clusters and tumbles

The slot pays by clusters. Matching fruits such as cherries, plums, strawberries and watermelons join to make a win, the winning symbols are cleared, and new fruit drops from the top of the board. The tumbling goes top to bottom and continues while new wins keep forming.

The official rules count 13 symbols in total: 10 regular ones, one wild, one scatter that pays nothing itself but starts the free spins, and one Super Wild whose job is to activate positions.

Marked circles and the bee

On each spin the game marks between 12 and 19 positions at random. These are the circles. When a bee symbol lands on one of them, every other circle on the board turns into a wild, and those wilds give the winning combinations more places to form.

The mechanic works on positions rather than on symbols, which is why the sources talk about activating a position instead of placing a wild. A position stays activated until the base spin or the free spins feature is over.

Super Wild

Lands only in the base game and in the tumbles that follow a spin, never in the free spins. It activates the position it lands on plus 2 to 6 other non-blank positions. If it falls on a blank position it behaves as an ordinary wild and burns away when it is part of a win.

Free spins with sticky wilds

The scatter opens a round of seven free spins. Up to three bees can arrive on each spin, and each activated circle becomes a wild that remains active for every later spin of the round. This is the sticky element of the title: the set of wild positions only grows.

The pattern of circles is chosen at random on the first free spin and stays the same for the entire feature. Re-activating a position that is already active changes nothing, and an active position cannot be switched off. The takeaway is that early bees matter most, because everything they activate is available for the remaining spins.

Free Spins

Seven spins in which up to three bees can land per spin. Activated circles turn into wilds and keep that state through all later spins, so more wild positions open up as the round proceeds.

Return and cost

Sticky Bees has one recorded RTP, 96.06%, a house edge of 3.94%. That is about $39.40 lost per $1,000 wagered over a long run. Across 100 spins, a $0.20 bet costs $0.79 on average, $1 costs $3.94, and $5 per spin, or $500 wagered, costs $19.70.

Volatility and max win are not published, and there is no hit frequency. The sources do not say how the swings are split between the base game and the bonus.

Comparable releases

Diamond Cascade also lists 96.06% and 2023, and Gods of Giza lists 96.01%. The Sugar Rush family sits higher: Sugar Rush and Sugar Rush Xmas are at 96.5% with a 5,000x max win, while Sugar Rush 1000 is at 96% with 25,000x. Jewel Rush adds 96.47%. If a published max win matters to you, those Sugar Rush entries are the ones that state one.

Pros

  • Marked circles and bees give a second layer of wilds on top of cluster wins
  • Activated wild positions stay for the whole of the free spins round
  • Up to three bees can land on each free spin
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Volatility, max win and hit frequency are not published
  • Rules are position-based and take a few spins to read

Verdict

Sticky Bees keeps cluster-and-tumble play on a 7×7 board and adds a position-activation twist that peaks in the seven free spins. The 96.06% RTP means a 3.94% house edge, and because volatility is not published the free demo is the way to judge it. Count it as paid entertainment that costs about $39.40 per $1,000 wagered on average.
