Disturbed review

Disturbed is set in the clinic of a sinister doctor and runs on an odd grid: reels of 4, 2, 4, 2 and 4 rows. The gaps above and below the two short reels are not empty space. They hold four Enhancer Cells that can light up on any spin and add wilds, extra ways, split symbols, respins or gravestones. Unusually for a review source, the pack includes some of the game's probability sheet, so we can say more than usual about how rare its bonuses are.

The grid and its four cells

Wins pay as ways from left to right across five reels. Because reels 2 and 4 show only two rows, the base number of ways is small, and the Enhancer Cells above and below those reels are what make a spin bigger. Up to four cells can be lit per spin, and each lit cell applies one effect.

Two characters work on the middle reel. Mrs. Nudge is a wild on reel 3 that nudges until it is fully visible, adding 1 to the win multiplier for every step. A full stack of the doctor characters on reel 3 also turns into a wild. The published hit frequency is 32.96%, about one spin in three.

What the Enhancer Cells can do

The five possible cell effects are the core of the base game.

xWays

A random paying symbol lands in the cell and expands to show between two and four copies of itself, raising the number of ways for that spin.

xSplit

Places Mr. Split, a wild, on reel 3. He splits all symbols on his row, doubling them and increasing the ways through that row.

Wild and Disturber

A lit cell can simply hold a wild. A Disturber instead grants a respin: lit features fire again, while xWays, wild and split positions stay in place, so effects can build up across the respin.

Gravestones and Angel of Death

Cells can also show gravestones. With all four lit as gravestones and a stacked Dr. Death on reel 3, the Angel of Death feature starts, which leads straight to the Six Feet Under maximum win.

Pre-Op and Annihilation Spins

Three, four or five scatters start Pre-Op Spins with 12, 15 or 20 free spins. According to the game page, at least one Enhancer Cell is always active during them. If an Executioner Scatter lands on reel 3 during Pre-Op, the round upgrades to Annihilation Spins and adds 3 more spins.

Annihilation Spins can also be reached directly: with all four Enhancer Cells lit when three, four or five scatters land, the round starts with 12, 15 or 20 spins. In Annihilation, all four cells stay lit on every spin, which is why it is the stronger round.

The probability sheet quoted in the rules gives the base trigger rate for free spins as about 1 in 398 spins. It also attributes 26.43% of the return to Pre-Op and only 1.18% to Annihilation, a sign that the top round is very rare.

Ramp Access xBet and bonus buys

Ramp Access xBet doubles the stake, a 100% increase. In return the top-left Enhancer Cell is always lit and a scatter is placed on reel 1. The game page's own text calls the increase slight, but the rules list it as double the base bet, so budget for twice the cost per spin.

Bonus buys for the Pre-Op and Annihilation variants range from 55x to 500x the bet. The exact price of each option is not printed in our source.

Return and rarity

The RTP is 96.1%, a house edge of 3.9%, or about $39 per $1,000 wagered over time. For 100 spins the average cost is $0.78 at $0.20, $3.90 at $1 and $19.50 at $5.

Our catalogue labels the volatility Very high; the game page calls it Extreme. The sheet puts a win of 100x or more at about 1 in 1,298 spins. The Six Feet Under cap is 54,391x the bet, $10,878.20 at a $0.20 stake, and the sheet estimates it at around 1 in 10 million spins. A special xGOD event can also award that maximum instantly. Among similar titles, Bangkok Hilton lists 96.1% with 44,444x, and D - Day 96.12% with 55,555x.

Pros

  • Enhancer Cells add five different effects to base spins
  • Published hit frequency of 32.96% and a free spins rate of about 1 in 398
  • Annihilation Spins keep all four cells lit on every spin
  • Unusually transparent probability figures in the rules

Cons

  • Very high volatility, described as Extreme on the game page
  • Ramp Access xBet doubles the cost of each spin
  • Annihilation contributes only 1.18% of the return, so it is very rare

Verdict

Disturbed builds its game around four Enhancer Cells that turn a narrow 4-2-4-2-4 grid into something much larger, and its two bonus tiers differ mainly in how many cells stay lit. The RTP is 96.1% and the volatility is Very high, or Extreme per the game page. The figures in its own sheet show how rare the top outcomes are. With a 3.9% house edge, it is paid entertainment for a firm budget.
