Disorder review

Disorder is a psychological thriller in slot form, and its mechanics are staged in layers. Fire Frames split the symbols inside them, Enhancer Cells at the bottom of the reels wake up once enough frames have been collected, and xBomb wilds raise a win multiplier. Three bonus tiers then change whether that multiplier and the frames reset between spins or persist. Nolimit City handles the dark premise through narrative text; the rules themselves are a plain progression from small to large.

Grid and splitting

The six reels use an alternating layout of four, three, four, three, four and three rows. The studio's page states 1,728 ways to start, read from left to right. Infectious xWays can expand visible matching symbols and add to that figure.

The central idea is the Fire Frame. A regular symbol that sits inside a frame is split into two, and further splits can take it up to a maximum of 16. Splitting is how the game multiplies ways without using tumbles, which it does not have.

Enhancer Cells and bombs

Three mechanics run in the base game and are used in the bonus too.

Enhancer Cells

Cells at the bottom of reels two, four and six unlock when four, seven and nine Fire Frames are on the board. After that, every two further frames reactivate all of them. They reveal a Molotov, which splits symbols, a Delusion, which turns symbols into the highest one, or a Paranoia multiplier between 1x and 999x.

xBomb Wild

Substitutes for everything except Bonus symbols and explodes the symbols next to it, except Bonus. After the explosion the win multiplier for the next win increases by one.

Infectious xWays

Expands matching visible symbols and spreads them across the board, which raises the ways count during a spin.

Three bonus tiers

Bonus and Super Bonus symbols decide the tier. In a bonus, each Bonus symbol adds two spins and each Super Bonus symbol adds three, both at the trigger and during the round. A Bonus symbol landing inside a Fire Frame becomes a Super Bonus.

Obsessive Compulsive Spins start with three Bonus symbols and at most one Super Bonus, with six or more spins. The win multiplier and the Fire Frames reset on each spin. Antisocial Personality Spins start with at least two Super Bonus symbols, or when two or three Supers appear during an Obsessive round. They run for eight or more spins and the win multiplier does not reset. Severe Dissociative Identity Spins need four Super Bonus symbols, keep the Fire Frames sticky and keep the multiplier too. Each round also stops when it reaches 23,500x.

Put simply, the tiers differ in what survives from one spin to the next. In the first, nothing does. In the second, the win multiplier does. In the third, the multiplier and the frames do. That is why the upper tiers carry most of the long-run potential, and why they ask for more Super Bonus symbols to reach.

Paid boosters

Three options are bought before a spin. The Bonus Booster costs 2x the bet and makes the bonus more likely. The Fire Booster costs 4x and adds more Fire Frames along with better bonus odds. The Enhancer Booster costs 15x, brings at least nine Fire Frames to the board and also helps the bonus odds. Each one lifts the price of every spin it is applied to, so the expected loss grows in step with the price.

Numbers

Disorder has an RTP of 96.11%, a house edge of 3.89% and an average loss of about $38.90 per $1,000 wagered. Our catalogue says the volatility is Very high, while the studio's own page describes a High rating, so both labels are published. Hit frequency is 25.95%.

A hundred spins cost $0.78 on average at $0.20, $3.89 at $1 and $19.45 at $5. The 23,500x maximum is worth $4,700, $23,500 and $117,500 at those bets.

Among its Very high peers, True Kult lists 96.06% and 23,237x, Bizarre 96.06% and 20,000x, Dead, Dead Or Deader 96.09% and 19,349x, and Little Bighorn 96.06% and 25,676x. xWays Hoarder 2 and Dead Men Walking list 25,920x and 25,313x.

Pros

  • Fire Frames split symbols up to 16, which raises the ways count without tumbles
  • Three bonus tiers, from resetting to fully persistent multipliers
  • Booster prices of 2x, 4x and 15x let you pick the level of intensity
  • Hit frequency of 25.95%

Cons

  • Layered rules (frames, cells, bombs, tiers) take time to learn
  • Max win of 23,500x is below three of its closest peers, including xWays Hoarder 2
  • No free demo is listed for this game

Verdict

Disorder is a mechanically busy slot with a 96.11% RTP, a 3.89% house edge and a 23,500x cap. The progression from Obsessive to Antisocial to Severe spins is easy to follow once the Fire Frames are understood, and the booster ladder is clearly priced. Volatility is Very high in our catalogue and High on the studio's page, so expect swings either way. Keep a fixed budget: 100 spins at $1 average $3.89 in cost.
