Bison Battle review
Most slots keep their action inside a bonus round. Push Gaming builds this one around a collision: two bison meet on the same row, and the game multiplies one by the other. The setting is the canyon country of native North America, but the interesting part is the maths of the clash. It starts in the main game, and three bison colours decide whether you land a direct payout, the Ice Park round or the Green Valley round.
The clash on the reels
The basic event needs two Red Bison on one row. One carries an Instant Prize and the other carries a Multiplier. When both are present, they run towards each other and collide. The prize value is multiplied by the multiplier value, and the result is paid out as a win.
The prize and the multiplier are therefore a pair. A large multiplier next to a small prize is worth little, and a large prize alongside a small multiplier is also modest. The pack gives no values for the Instant Prizes or the base multipliers, so the size of a typical clash is not something we can state.
Two bonus modes
The same clash idea opens the free spin rounds. A second bison colour appears next to a Red Bison with a multiplier, and which colour appears decides the mode.
Ice Park
Starts when a Blue Bison and a Red Bison with a multiplier share a row and clash. The round begins with 3 free spins. Red Bison Walking symbols with a multiplier up to 10x can land on reels 1 and 5. Bison Coin symbols, which are bet multipliers and sticky, land on reels 2, 3 and 4 and go up to 2,500x. Every landed symbol resets the spin count, and the round ends when no spins remain.
Green Valley
Starts when a Green Bison and a Red Bison with a multiplier share a row. It begins with 8 free spins. Red Bison Walking symbols with a multiplier up to 10x land on reels 1 and 5. A Red Bison that lands on the same row as a Sticky Wild multiplies that Wild's value and also awards additional free spins.
Choosing between them
Ice Park starts with fewer spins but resets them with every new symbol, so a busy round can run long. Green Valley starts with a larger fixed pool and ties its extra spins to Sticky Wilds meeting a Red Bison. Neither pays out more on average according to the pack, and the mode is decided by the colour that lands, not by a player choice.
The maths and the two versions
Bison Battle exists in two RTP versions in our catalogue. The headline figure is 96.4%, a house edge of 3.6%, which costs about $36 per $1,000 wagered. The lower version is 94.18%, a house edge of 5.82% and about $58.20 per $1,000. Push Gaming notes that the figure can vary by operator and is shown on the loading screen, so check which version you are running before you rely on any number here.
For 100 spins the average cost at the 96.4% version is $0.72 at a $0.20 bet, $3.60 at $1 and $18 at $5. At 94.18% the same sessions cost $1.16, $5.82 and $29.10. Our catalogue does not publish a volatility label or a maximum win for this game, and the studio text gives none either, so we do not rate either figure.
Games with the same headline RTP
Blaze of Ra, Dinopolis, Fish 'n' Nudge, Goat Getter, Jammin' Jars 2 and Samurai's Katana all list the same 96.4% headline RTP. That makes the RTP a poor way to choose between them; the features are what separate the games.
Pros
- Clash mechanic multiplies an Instant Prize by a Multiplier in the base game
- Two distinct free spin modes, Ice Park and Green Valley
- Bison Coin symbols reach 2,500x the bet in Ice Park
- Free official demo available
Cons
- No volatility label or max win is published in the catalogue or the studio text
- A 94.18% version exists with a 5.82% house edge
- Instant Prize and base multiplier values are not stated
Verdict
Bison Battle is built on a simple collision: prize times multiplier, with a coloured bison deciding whether the round becomes Ice Park or Green Valley. The headline RTP is 96.4%, but the 94.18% version costs noticeably more per session. With no volatility or max win published, there is no reliable way to judge the swings from the data. Treat it as paid entertainment and use the free demo first.
