Crystal Catcher review
Crystal Catcher takes you into the mines to look for crystals, with a Wild Beetle as your helper. Push Gaming has built a cluster slot in which crystals pay instant prizes and the beetle hops from gem to gem, leaving copies of itself behind and raising its multiplier on every jump. The bonus game lowers the reels into lava. Our catalogue holds no volatility label, max win or release year for it.
Crystals and instant prizes
Six crystal types sit on the reels, and a win needs a cluster of five or more crystals of the same colour. Each colour carries its own instant prize value, with the lower values on green, blue and purple, and the higher ones on pink, orange and the top-value red crystal. The studio gives the range as 0.20 to 100.
Clusters need connected gems, so the base game reads as a colour-matching puzzle with prizes attached to each colour.
The Wild Beetle
The beetle is the centre of the design. It can appear on the reels in the base game and it activates its multiplier whenever it flies to a special Crystal, Bonus or Instant Prize symbol.
Crystal Catcher feature
When the beetle lands on a reel that holds any Crystal, Bonus or Instant Prize symbol, it flies to every Crystal symbol on that reel. Each time it moves to a new crystal, its multiplier rises by one, and it leaves a Gold Beetle symbol behind carrying the multiplier it had before jumping.
Bonus game
The bonus is triggered when the Wild Beetle lands on the reels together with a non-paying Bonus symbol. The reels are lowered into lava and 7 free spins are granted. Any beetles already present when the bonus starts move to Crystal or Instant Prize symbols, collecting cluster wins on the way.
RTP and cost
Two versions are on record. The headline 96.3% has a 3.7% house edge, about $37 lost per $1,000 wagered over a long run. The second, 94.3%, has a 5.7% edge and costs about $57 per $1,000. The studio notes that RTP may vary per casino and is shown in the game's user panel and on the loading screen.
Across 100 spins at $0.20, the average cost is $0.74 on the headline version and $1.14 on the lower one. At $1 a spin that becomes $3.70 and $5.70, and at $5 a spin $18.50 and $28.50.
Same RTP, other games
Fire Hopper and Shamrock Saints list the same 96.3%. Cats of Olympuss shows 96.31%, DJ Cat 96.32%, and DJ Fox and The Grand Show 96.28%. With so many close figures, the beetle mechanic is the practical difference.
Pros
- The Wild Beetle's multiplier rises by one with each jump to a new crystal
- Bonus game gives 7 free spins with the beetles already in play
- Six crystal colours with a published prize range of 0.20 to 100
- Free official demo available
Cons
- No volatility label or max win in our catalogue
- The 94.3% version has a 5.7% house edge
- The bonus needs the beetle and a non-paying Bonus symbol on the reels together
Verdict
Crystal Catcher is easy to describe: clusters of five crystals pay, and a beetle turns the reel it lands on into a chain of multiplied jumps. The 96.3% headline RTP and 3.7% house edge are plain figures, and the lack of a published volatility or max win leaves the size of swings open. Treat it as paid entertainment and look at the free demo to see how often the beetle gets going.
