5 Lions Megaways 2 review
This is the third game in a line that began in 2018. Pragmatic Play released 5 Lions Megaways 2 in 2025 as a Megaways slot with up to 262,144 ways, tumbling wins and wild symbols that apply random multipliers. The free spins add a level system: coins are collected in a meter, and each completed set of three gives extra spins while removing the smallest multiplier from the pool.
Megaways, tumbles and wild multipliers
Reels one to six can each show up to eight symbols, which makes 262,144 the highest possible number of ways to win. Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels, in combinations of any size. The Wild appears on every reel and replaces all symbols except Scatter, Super Scatter and Level Up Coin.
After a win, the winning symbols disappear and others fall in; new symbols are the same size as the initial spin result. All wins reach the balance only after the final tumble.
Wild multiplier
When a Wild is part of a winning combination in the base game, a random multiplier is applied to every combination that uses a Wild. The possible values are 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 30x, 40x and 100x.
Scatter payouts
Scatters pay on their own: three give 3 times the bet, four give 5 times, five give 25 times and six give 100 times. They do not explode during tumbles, and three or more of them, mixed with Super Scatters, start a free spins round.
Free spins with levels
Three or more regular Scatters open the regular free spins. If at least one Super Scatter is part of the trigger, the Super Free Spins start instead, and the studio notes that it gives between 1 and 10 extra spins. Before the round, one of 8 free spin options is selected. The rules text we hold describes a start with 35 free spins and a 100x Wild multiplier, but not every option is spelled out.
Level Up Coins are collected in a meter. The first set of three moves the round to level 2, awards three more spins and removes the lowest Wild multiplier from the pool until the round ends. The second set takes it to level 3 with three more spins and removes the next lowest value. Every level therefore makes each later Wild worth more on average, at the cost of fewer low values.
Ante bet and bonus buys
An ante option sets the bet multiplier at 50x instead of the 20x used in normal play. At 50x the chance of reaching free spins naturally is seven times higher and tumbles are more frequent, but buying the bonus is disabled.
There are three purchases: Buy Free Spins at 100 times the bet, Buy Super at 150 times and Buy Mystery at 500 times. The first places at least three regular scatters on the spin; the Super version adds at least one Super Scatter.. A free demo is available.
Numbers
The rules give a theoretical RTP of 96.5%, which is a house edge of 3.5% and $35 lost per $1,000 wagered. Volatility is not published. A hundred spins cost $0.70 on average at $0.20, $3.50 at $1 and $17.50 at $5.
Wins are capped at 8,000 times the bet, or $1,600, $8,000 and $40,000 at those three stakes.
The series and comparable titles
Two earlier games sit in the series: 5 Lions from 2018, listed at 96.5%, and 5 Lions Megaways from 2021, at 96.5% with a 5,000x cap. This sequel keeps the RTP and raises the cap to 8,000x.
Other Megaways games in the catalogue include Ancient Island Megaways (96.55%, 10,000x, 2025), Bandit Megaways (96.55%, 5,000x, 2025) and Pompeii Megareels Megaways (96%, 10,000x, 2024). Extra Juicy Megaways (2022) is listed at 96.42% with High volatility and 5,000x.
Pros
- Up to 262,144 ways with tumbles and Wild multipliers of 1x to 100x
- Level system in the free spins adds spins and removes low multipliers
- Scatters pay by themselves, from 3x to 100x the bet
- Free official demo is available
Cons
- No volatility rating is published
- The 50x ante option disables buying the bonus
- The rules extract does not fully list the free spin options
Verdict
5 Lions Megaways 2 combines Megaways reels, tumbles and wild multipliers, then adds a level meter in the free spins. It returns 96.5% in theory, a 3.5% house edge, and caps wins at 8,000 times the bet, above its 2021 predecessor. Volatility is not published, so the demo is the right place to see how the levels play out before choosing a stake.
