Big Bass Amazon Xtreme review

The Big Bass series has always been about money symbols and a fisherman wild. This 2023 entry from Pragmatic Play changes what happens before the free spins. Instead of walking straight into the round, you open a pick bonus and choose modifiers that shape it: more spins, a head start with fishermen, or a trimmed list of low fish values. The studio sets the river on the Amazon and the ceiling at 10,000x the bet.

Base game: lines, money symbols and a nearly-there respin

The studio describes ten paylines, read from the left across adjacent reels. Money symbols carry a random value at every spin, drawn from a list that starts at 0.2x and climbs through 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 200x, 250x, 333x and 500x to 1000x the total bet. Those values are won in the free spins feature.

There is also a random collection in the base game. After a spin there is a chance that the money symbols on the screen are collected and paid, and a random multiplier from 1x up to 50x is awarded with them. When two scatters land without a third, a random feature may bring a third one in. If the scatters can move down one position within the reels, one such route is a respin. The remainder of that rule is cut off in our data.

The pick bonus before the free spins

Three or more scatters give 10 free spins. Four or five scatters also open a pick bonus with one or two boot items already revealed. In this pick round the studio says you select among six different game-altering mechanics before the spins begin.

The rules list several of the options. They are worth reading closely, because they decide how strong the starting position is.

Already collected Fisherman wilds

Reveal up to three Fisherman wild items to start with up to three fishermen already collected. They count towards progress to the retrigger in the following round, so the round begins partway along.

Remove lowest fish

This item can be revealed up to two times. The first time, the 2x money value is removed from the pool of possible values in the round. The second time, the 5x value is removed as well, so low cash values appear less often.

Extra spins

Spin items add 1, 2 or 3 more free spins at the start of the round. The studio also mentions options for more fish and for starting at level two.

The fisherman wild and the climb

In the free spins the Fisherman wild can appear on all reels. It substitutes for everything except the scatter and the money symbol. The studio says the aim is to find additional fishermen, which unlock an increasing multiplier. Combined with the pick bonus, that means the earlier choices influence how quickly the multiplier ladder begins to move.

Bet multipliers and buying in

The game offers a choice of bet multipliers. At 10x you play normally. At 15x there are more scatters on the reels and the natural chance of the free spins is higher, but Buy Free Spins is disabled. That is a trade-off: the higher stake raises the bonus odds but removes the shortcut.

Buy Free Spins costs 100x the current total bet, and three, four or five scatters land at random on the triggering spin. The number of scatters therefore decides whether the pick bonus starts with revealed items.

RTP and cost per session

One RTP is on record, 96.07%, a house edge of 3.93%. On average $39.30 is lost per $1,000 wagered. A 100-spin session costs about $0.79 at $0.20, $3.93 at $1 and $19.65 at $5 (a total of $500 wagered). The ante setting raises the cost of each spin by half, so these figures scale up with it. Volatility is not published.

The max win is 10,000x the bet, which is $2,000 at $0.20, $10,000 at $1 and $50,000 at $5.

Neighbours on the numbers

Country Farming and Big Bass - Keeping it Reel (2022) both list 96.07% and 10,000x. Cash Chips lists 96.03% and 10,000x, Peak Power 96.02% and 10,000x, and 8 Golden Dragon Challenge 96.02% and 8,800x. Zeus vs Hades - Gods of War reaches 15,000x at 96.07%.

Pros

  • Pick bonus lets you shape the free spins before they start
  • Money symbol values range from 0.2x to 1000x the total bet
  • Ante setting raises the chance of the free spins naturally
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Volatility is not published
  • The ante setting disables Buy Free Spins and costs more per spin
  • The bonus buy costs 100x the bet
  • Some rule text is cut off in our data

Verdict

Big Bass Amazon Xtreme keeps the series formula of money symbols and a collecting fisherman and adds a pick bonus that lets the player choose modifiers before the free spins. RTP is 96.07%, the house edge 3.93%, the max win 10,000x and volatility is not published. It suits players who like making choices inside a bonus. Test the picks in the free demo before committing any budget to a 100x buy.
