Serial review
Serial is one of Nolimit City's darkest themes, built around a masked killer known as the Bodycam Butcher. Mechanically it is a respin game on a 5x3 grid: every win sticks and triggers another spin, and each successful respin opens Enhancer Cells that can add wilds, xWays or character symbols. Its most unusual element comes at the very end, an optional xBizarre gamble that offers a path from 18,700x to the 74,800x maximum.
Sticky wins and opening cells
Wins pay as ways from left to right on five reels of three rows. When a win lands, the winning symbols stick and the other positions respin. If the respin improves the win, the sequence continues. The published hit frequency is 27.59%, a little over one spin in four.
Each improving respin also opens Enhancer Cells above and below the reels, working from left to right. An opened cell reveals an xWays symbol showing two to four copies, an xNudge Wild, a regular wild or a character symbol. The game page adds that Infectious xWays can spread one symbol's size to every matching symbol on the grid.
xNudge Wild
Nudges into full view and gains 1 multiplier for each step. If it is split by an xSplit, its multiplier is doubled.
xSplit Wild
Appears on reel 5 only as a double wild. It splits the symbols in its row and doubles what it touches: the spin numbers on scatters, the multiplier of an xNudge Wild or the size of an xWays symbol.
The Search and The Kill
Scatters carry numbers. Three scatters start The Search, and the number of free spins equals the sum of the numbers on them. An xSplit hitting a scatter doubles its number, which is why the reel 5 wild matters for the trigger as well as for wins.
During The Search, according to the game page, extra Enhancer Cells open on the middle reels, so reels 2 to 4 can grow and the layout becomes 3-5-5-5-3. That is a substantial jump in ways compared with the base game.
Three scatters together with an xSplit start The Kill instead. It adds a jumping wild that moves around reel 5 on each spin, keeping a wild in play on the last reel throughout the round. The game page describes it as the more volatile tier.
xBizarre: the gamble at the top
When a win passes 18,700x the bet, xBizarre offers a choice. You can take the win, or play a 50/50 for another 18,700x, up to three times. Choosing wrong does not wipe the win; you keep what you had before that pick.
Three successful picks on top of the first 18,700x add up to the 74,800x cap. The structure makes the cap reachable only through this gamble, so it is worth understanding before such a situation arises. At a $0.20 stake, the cap equals $14,960.
Buying in and the costs
Bonus buys for The Search and The Kill range from 78x to 480x the bet; individual prices are not printed in our source. The game page also mentions an xBet that places a scatter on reel 2, though the rules summary lists no ante option and no price, so check the game's own menu.
The RTP is 96.07%, a house edge of 3.93%, which is about $39.30 per $1,000 wagered. On average 100 spins cost $0.79 at $0.20, $3.93 at $1 and $19.65 at $5. Our catalogue rates the volatility Very high; the game page uses the label Extreme.
Comparable games
No sequel is listed. Folsom Prison shares the 96.07% RTP with a 75,000x cap, and Brute Force: Alien Onslaught lists 96.01% with 80,000x. Mental sits at 96.08% with 66,666x, all rated Very high.
Serial is aimed at adults comfortable with graphic horror and with sessions where most spins return little. The respin chain gives each win a chance to grow, but the meaningful results sit in the two bonuses and the rare xBizarre decision, so patience and a firm stop limit matter more than any setting.
Pros
- Sticky respins and opening Enhancer Cells make each win a potential chain
- Scatter numbers set the free spin count, and xSplit can double them
- xBizarre keeps your prior win when a gamble pick fails
- Published hit frequency of 27.59%
Cons
- Very high volatility, described as Extreme on the game page
- The 74,800x cap requires winning three 50/50 gambles
- Very dark theme that will not suit everyone
Verdict
Serial pairs a grim theme with a clean mechanic: wins stick, respins open Enhancer Cells, and the bonuses either expand the middle reels or keep a jumping wild on reel 5. The xBizarre gamble gives a defined, optional path from 18,700x to the 74,800x cap. The RTP is 96.07% and volatility is Very high, or Extreme per the game page. With a 3.93% house edge, keep it to a fixed entertainment budget.
