Tanked 3: First Blood 2 review
Tanked 3: First Blood 2 does not behave like a normal reel slot. Characters move across a grid of gems, collect matching colours, destroy one another and trigger boosters and bombs, while the board grows in four sections. Nolimit City calls the system xLoot, and the pack's rules are clear that it is not a classic ways game. It is a busy design, and this review takes it piece by piece.
The xLoot engine
Payouts come when a moving character symbol picks up gems of its own colour. Wilds can be collected by every character. Each gem colour has seven payout levels, and a level rises by one every time the matching character kills another character. So the more fighting that happens on the board, the more each gem is worth.
The grid has seven columns with 4, 5, 6, 5, 6, 5 and 4 rows to start. Bombs expand it when no moves or boosters remain. The four sections can each grow up to three steps, and the rules give a final layout in which the tallest reels reach 13 rows. Avalanches follow wins, and a feature called xGlitch may force drops that contain only feature symbols, valued from 4x to 50x.
Boosters, booms and coins
A small toolbox keeps the action going when characters stop moving.
Tank Boosters
Rocket, Loot Rocket, Grenade, Hatchet and Airstrike are used once movement stops. They are the tools that keep a spin going after the characters have stopped.
Pickpocket, Small Boom and Big Boom
These depend on how many characters are stuck next to each other. Two give a gift booster, three explode and raise a gem level, and four clear the whole board and expand every section.
Coins and Kill Drop
Coins are worth 1 to 5,000 times the bet, and a character that picks one up is paid that value. If the character is killed, its coins are dropped on the board. A kill can also drop a booster, a bomb, a bonus or a Coinburst.
Three bonus tiers
A character that collects Bonus symbols decides which round opens. Three give the Thresher Spins, four give the Reaper Spins and five give The Dead Pay Well Spins, each with seven spins. A further Bonus adds one more spin in all three.
The tiers build on each other. Thresher keeps the grid size and gem levels reached in the base game. Reaper adds sticky coins, and The Dead Pay Well makes characters carry their coins across spins, dropping them only on death. Every round ends when the spins are done or the 25,584x cap is reached.
Buying features
Four options are sold before the spin. Bonus Blitz costs 2 times the bet and lands one Bonus symbol. The Coinburst option costs 50 times, Maxed Out costs 200 times and starts with the maximum grid and gem values, and God Mode costs 4,000 times to chase the Max Win symbol. The studio does not list a free demo for this game.
Maths and its Tanked predecessor
The game has one RTP, 95.99%, a house edge of 4.01% and $40.10 lost per $1,000 wagered. Volatility is Medium, with a hit frequency of 20.24%, so about one spin in five pays. A hundred spins cost $0.80 at $0.20, $4.01 at $1 and $20.05 at $5. The maximum win is 25,584 times the bet, which is $5,116.80, $25,584 or $127,920 at those stakes.
The earlier game in the catalogue, Tanked, lists 96.04% with a High rating and a 25,000x cap. Among Medium games with similar numbers are DJ Psycho (96.05%, 25,420x), The Cage (96.05%, 25,000x), Dragon Tribe (96.07%, 27,000x), Devil's Crossroad (96.06%, 13,180x) and Outsourced: Payday (96%, 10,000x).
Pros
- Gem payout levels rise through seven steps as characters kill each other
- Three bonus tiers with seven spins each and persistent state between them
- Medium volatility alongside a 25,584x ceiling
- A wide range of buy options, from 2x to 4,000x
Cons
- Boosters, bombs, booms and glitches make the rules heavy to follow
- Hit frequency of 20.24% means about four spins in five pay nothing
- No free demo is listed on the official page
Verdict
Tanked 3: First Blood 2 is a complicated slot with a Medium label. The 95.99% RTP and 4.01% house edge are plain figures; the interest lies in how xLoot gem levels, expanding sections and three bonus tiers interact. With a hit frequency of 20.24%, quiet stretches are normal, so a small bet and a clear spending limit suit it better than a large one.
