Brute Force: Alien Onslaught review

In the studio's story, the heroes beat Hyper and now face Xylox, a planetary overlord, with a mercenary called Jade joining Joshua and Jason. Brute Force: Alien Onslaught widens the board to six reels and adds a fourth Wild that feeds on the others. Its most unusual touch is the Scatter colour system: the mix of red and blue Scatters, not just their number, decides which of five bonus rounds you enter.

Six reels of five

Every reel holds five rows across six columns, and wins pay as ways from the left. The grid never changes size; there are no tumbles or respins.

A regular Wild adds a quieter effect of its own. When it lands, it can randomly turn every low-paying symbol on its reel into a mid-paying one, lifting the value of whatever combination it completes. The hit frequency is 21.28%, so roughly four spins in five end without a return.

The four xNudge characters

All four xNudge Wilds arrive stacked and always nudge until fully visible. Each step raises their multiplier at a rate fixed by the character, and once fully visible a random extra multiplier can be added at the base of the stack. When more than one takes part in a win, a meter adds their values together.

Joshua

Gains 1 per nudge and tops out at 7x. The weakest Wild, and the first one removed from the stronger bonus rounds.

Jason

Gains 2 per nudge with a 15x cap. A useful mid-range contributor that also disappears from the Super REDemption and Stellar Punishment rounds.

Jade

The mercenary is the strongest of the human Wilds: 5 per nudge, up to 40x. In Stellar Punishment Spins a sticky Jade is always placed on the first spin, making her central to that round.

Xylox

The overlord moves at only 1 per nudge, but his real role is collection. He absorbs the multipliers of the other xNudge Wilds on screen and adds them to his own. In every free spin round he is always sticky, so his total can keep growing for the whole feature.

Red, blue and the five rounds

Scatters come in red and blue, and every bonus awards 10 spins. What changes is which Wilds can land and which can stick.

Three Scatters with at least two red lead to REDemption Spins, where Joshua is removed. Four Scatters with at least three red give Super REDemption Spins, which remove both Joshua and Jason, leaving the stronger characters. Three Scatters with at least two blue give BLU Genesis Spins, where Joshua, Jason and Jade can all become sticky. Four Scatters with at least three blue give Super BLU Genesis Spins, which adds a sticky Joshua on the first spin that stays to the end.

A split of two red and two blue opens Stellar Punishment Spins. Joshua and Jason do not land, Jade can become sticky and is always placed sticky on spin one, and Xylox sticks as in every other mode. Any round ends early if total winnings hit the 80,000x cap, which the game calls Game Breaker.

Boosts for sale

No classic ante exists. Instead, the xBoost family lets you pay more per spin. xBoost costs 4.6x the bet and places a Scatter on reel 2, making a free spin trigger roughly 8 times more likely. Super xBoost costs 32x, places Scatters on reels 2 and 3, and the rules put the trigger chance at about 54 times the normal rate.

A further set of single-spin buys sets a minimum number of xNudge Wilds, from 1 to 5. Prices step up from 40x through 220x, 750x and 2,500x to 8,000x the bet. These are large sums that do not change the RTP, only how much is risked on one spin.

Odds and ceiling

The single RTP on record is 96.01%, so the house edge is 3.99%. Over a long run that is close to $39.90 for every $1,000 staked. A 100-spin session averages $0.80 at $0.20, $3.99 at $1 and $19.95 at $5.

Our catalogue rates the volatility Very high; the studio page gives it an Extreme rating. The 80,000x cap would equal $16,000 at $0.20 and $400,000 at $5. Among similar titles, Folsom Prison lists 96.07% with a 75,000x cap and Kenneth Must Die 96.04% with 69,000x.

Pros

  • Five distinct 10-spin bonus rounds chosen by Scatter colour
  • Xylox collects other Wilds' multipliers and is always sticky in the bonus
  • Wilds can upgrade low-paying symbols on their reel
  • An 80,000x ceiling

Cons

  • Very high volatility, rated Extreme by the studio
  • The colour rules take time to learn
  • Wild buys climb to 8,000x the bet for a single spin

Verdict

Brute Force: Alien Onslaught is a dense design: four nudging Wilds with their own caps, a collector that sticks through every bonus, and five free spin rounds picked by Scatter colour. The 96.01% RTP gives a 3.99% house edge, and the volatility is Very high in our data and Extreme in the studio's rating. It rewards players who enjoy learning a system and can afford long dry runs; set limits before you start.
