Little Bighorn review

Nolimit City bases this slot on the historical battle of the same name, presenting it as a clash between tribal warriors and soldiers. Behind the theme sits a ways-to-win engine with an uneven board, wilds that grow across a reel and two separate free spin rounds. Volatility is rated Very high in our catalogue, and the studio uses an even stronger word for it.

An uneven board that pays in ways

Wins run from left to right and are counted in ways, not paylines. The studio describes the layout as unconventional, with the reels holding 3, 4, 5, 3 and 2 positions. One reel is five symbols tall, and the rules call it the tall scalp reel. Our catalogue records the grid as 5x5, which reflects the maximum height rather than the layout on screen.

A wild that covers a whole reel adds to every combination that passes through it.

Wilds and the respin

The base game has several wild types and one respin trigger. They are triggered separately, so the rules are easiest to follow one at a time.

Scalp Wild and xMount

The Scalp Wild can land only on the tall reel. When it does, the xMount mechanic turns the soldier symbols into wilds, and the symbol nudges until it covers the reel. Each nudge adds 1 to a multiplier, so a long run of nudges is the route to a bigger base-game win.

Totem Scatter

One or two Totem Scatters in the base game become expanding wilds. A group of three starts the Scalp Freespins instead. During the free spins, an expanding Wild also adds one extra spin to the round.

No Mercy and the Spirit Call Respin

A full No Mercy Scatter on reel five triggers the Spirit Call Respin. The symbol moves to reel one and reveals a Chieftain Wild. Sitting Bull expands, Crazy Horse adds 1 to the multiplier each time he lands, and Two Moon acts as a plain wild.

Two free spin rounds

Three Totem Scatters open the Scalp Freespins, which start with eight spins. The multiplier from xMount is sticky in this round, rising by one for each scalped symbol and staying until the round ends. Another Totem adds one spin, and a No Mercy symbol landing adds two through Spirit Call.

If three Totems arrive together with a No Mercy Scatter, the game opens the Spirit Call Freespins with ten spins. The No Mercy symbol stays on reel one and changes into a different Chieftain on every spin. The Scalp features remain active, so this is the richer of the two rounds. Both rounds end when the spins run out or the 25,676x cap is reached.

Bet options

Scalp xBet raises the stake by 50%, so each spin costs 1.5 times the bet, and in return it places a Totem Scatter on reel two. Nolimit Bonus Buy sells direct access to the features at prices from 77 to 490 times the bet.. The studio does not list a free demo for this slot.

Volatility and the maths

Our catalogue rates Little Bighorn as Very high volatility, while the studio's page calls it Extreme. Both labels are published, and both point the same way: results will swing widely. The hit frequency is 32.35%, so roughly one spin in three pays something.

The only RTP on record is 96.06%, a house edge of 3.94% and about $39.40 lost per $1,000 wagered. A hundred spins cost $0.79 on average at $0.20, $3.94 at $1 and $19.70 at $5. The top win of 25,676 times the bet equals $5,135.20 at $0.20, $25,676 at $1 and $128,380 at $5.

Other Very high games in the catalogue

True Kult matches the 96.06% RTP with a 23,237x max win. Punk Rocker 2 also sits at 96.06% but reaches 30,144x. Stockholm Syndrome (96.08%, 28,873x), Disorder (96.11%, 23,500x), xWays Hoarder 2 (96.14%, 25,920x) and Dead Men Walking (96.2%, 25,313x) are all rated Very high as well.

Pros

  • Two distinct free spin rounds, with eight and ten spins
  • Sticky multiplier grows with each scalped symbol during the Scalp Freespins
  • Hit frequency of 32.35% means roughly one spin in three pays something
  • Crazy Horse and the scalp nudges add 1 to the multiplier each time, so growth is steady

Cons

  • Extreme-level swings, according to the studio, make bankroll planning harder
  • No free demo is listed on the official page
  • Several wild types and two bonus triggers take time to learn

Verdict

Little Bighorn is a high-variance ways slot built around expanding wilds, a sticky multiplier and two bonus rounds. With a 96.06% RTP and a 3.94% house edge, the volatility, rated Very high here and Extreme by the studio, is what defines the experience. A 25,676x ceiling exists, though the typical session will be far from it, and a small stake is the safer way to approach the game.
