xWays Hoarder 2 review

In xWays Hoarder 2 the bonus round is a slow escalation. Specials stick to the board once they land, a collection counter raises a Radiation level for every three of them, and at level four the game strips the symbol set down to its best symbols for the remaining spins. Nolimit City sets it in a post-apocalyptic wasteland on a compact 3 by 6 grid, and the volatility is rated Very high. Understanding the order of events is the easiest way to understand the game.

Three rows, six reels, one rule about reel one

The grid is three rows on each of six reels, with ways wins from left to right. The rules do not print a base ways count, because the xWays symbols change it from spin to spin. The first reel behaves differently from the rest: xWays, xSplit and scatters cannot land there, and it is the reel that gets locked during the Loot Respin.

The xWays symbol appears on the middle four reels and reveals a random regular symbol. Its size depends on how many xWays are connected on the reel: two to four with one, three to eight with two, and four to twelve with three. If more than one lands, they reveal the same symbol.

The specials

The base game is built from a small set of connected specials.

xSplit Wild

Can land on any reel except the first. It splits to the left along its row, and if it splits an xWays it doubles that symbol's multiplier. A scatter is never split: the attempt turns it into a Super Scatter instead.

xSplit Nudge

A stacked version, also barred from reel one. It nudges, stopping before specials, then splits each position to the left.

Loot Respin

Starts when a Loot symbol lands with any special. Reel one is expanded and locked, the specials stay sticky, and the game keeps respinning until no new special appears. It then unlocks reel one for a final respin, and a new Loot can trigger the sequence again.

Raid, Plunder and Binge Spins

Three, four or five scatters award seven, ten or thirteen Raid Spins. If at least one Super Scatter is among them, the bonus becomes Plunder Spins instead, with the same spin counts. In Raid, a Super Scatter converts itself and the regular symbols below it into xSplit. In Plunder, its position and everything below it become a sticky xSplit column.

Specials stay on the board after landing. Every three collected xSplit, xWays or xSplit Nudge symbols raise the Radiation level, which removes low-paying symbols and adds one spin. When the level reaches four, Binge Spins take over for the remaining spins and only the top two characters and the highest object can land. The round ends when the spins finish or the cap of 25,920x, known as Wafer Thin Mint, is reached.

Boosters, priced per spin

There are three paid options, all bought before a spin. The xBet at 3x the bet makes free spins four times more likely. A 10x booster ensures at least one xSplit Nudge on the spin. A 30x booster brings a Loot Respin. The rules we hold list no purchase of the bonus round itself, so these are the only ways to adjust the odds. Each raises the cost of every spin, so the average loss per hundred spins rises with them.

Return, volatility and peers

The RTP is 96.14%, a house edge of 3.86%, or about $38.60 lost per $1,000 wagered. The catalogue lists Very high volatility and a hit frequency of 21.5%. The studio describes the game as extreme on its scale.

Over 100 spins, the average cost is $0.77 at $0.20, $3.86 at $1 and $19.30 at $5. The 25,920x maximum equals $5,184, $25,920 and $129,600 at those bets. Similar Very high games include Dead Men Walking at 96.2% and 25,313x, Little Bighorn at 96.06% and 25,676x, Disorder at 96.11% and 23,500x, and Remember Gulag at 96.08% and 30,000x.

Pros

  • Sticky specials make the bonus build in a way that is easy to follow
  • Radiation levels add spins and remove low-paying symbols
  • Three boosters from 3x to 30x allow targeted adjustments
  • Compact 3x6 grid with xWays sizes up to 12

Cons

  • Very high volatility means long dry stretches are normal
  • Max win of 25,920x is below some comparable games, such as Remember Gulag at 30,000x
  • No free demo is listed for this game
  • Rules are dense, with several special symbols that interact

Verdict

xWays Hoarder 2 is a game for players who like watching a bonus escalate. The 96.14% RTP and 3.86% house edge are close to the studio's usual figures, volatility is Very high and the cap is 25,920x. The sticky specials and Radiation levels are well defined, but the rules are dense and a quiet base game is normal. Treat it as paid entertainment, set a budget first, and expect about $3.86 per 100 spins at $1 as the average cost.
