Nine To Five review
Nolimit City sets this slot inside a cubicle at a company called RatRace, and the joke is the corporate grind: managers, fax machines and paperwork. Behind the satire sits a busy ruleset. Nudging wilds multiply each other, an optional bet blocks the last reel, and two free spin rounds swing a shared multiplier up and down with Layoff and Lawsuit symbols. Here is how all of it fits together.
The cubicle: grid and base game
The game uses a 5x4 grid and pays by ways, left to right. The studio puts the base figure at 1,024 ways. Wilds and scatters can only land on reels 2 to 5, so the first reel carries ordinary symbols alone.
The studio also mentions an xWays mechanic that reveals two to four matching symbols on a spot to widen the number of ways. Regular wilds come in two kinds: a Green Wild carries a multiplier from 1x to 5x, while a Red Wild is dead and does nothing.
xNudge Wild
Lands on reels 2 to 5. When it appears only partly on screen, it nudges up or down until it is fully visible, and its multiplier grows as it moves. Once fully visible it can nudge up to nine more times. Where several wild multipliers are on screen, they multiply together rather than add.
xBet
An optional bet that costs 10% more per spin. It blocks the last reel and, according to the rules, more than doubles the odds of reaching the free spins. The studio calls the stake only slightly higher, but it is a permanent surcharge on every spin you use it for.
Two ways up the ladder: the bonus rounds
Three scatters start Middle Management Spins with 10 spins. Four scatters start Ivory Tower Spins with 12. Both rounds are driven by a round multiplier that is applied to the winnings at the end of the round, and it can range from 1x up to 9999x.
An Overtime symbol adds one spin. In Middle Management, two or more Overtime symbols upgrade the round to Ivory Tower, so a modest start can still end up in the higher tier.
Middle Management Spins
Ten spins. A Layoff symbol adds 1 to the round multiplier and a Lawsuit symbol takes 1 away. The multiplier is applied when the round ends, so a late Lawsuit can hurt. Two Overtime symbols upgrade the round to Ivory Tower.
Ivory Tower Spins
Twelve spins. A Tech Layoff symbol adds to the multiplier and doubles the value of the next Tech Layoff. The Ctrl Alt Del symbol works the other way and divides the next Tech Layoff by four. Overtime still adds one spin.
Buying shortcuts
Several features can be bought. Middle Management costs 75x the bet, Ivory Tower 200x and Lucky Draw 125x. God Mode costs 1,370x and is bought before a spin, aiming at the fully stacked Mega symbol. The rules say a stacked Mega symbol awards the maximum win outright.
The sheet does not say what Lucky Draw pays, only its price. Because the God Mode price is 1,370x and the cap is 9,217x, even the top purchase is a large stake for a single spin.
What the maths says
One RTP is listed, 96.03%, a house edge of 3.97% and about $39.70 lost per $1,000 wagered on average. Hit frequency is 21.97%, so most spins return nothing. A hundred spins at $0.20 cost $0.79 on average, at $1 they cost $3.97 and at $5 they cost $19.85.
The top prize is 9,217x the bet: $1,843.40 at $0.20, $9,217 at $1 and $46,085 at $5. Our catalogue rates the game Very high volatility, while the studio's page describes it as High and notes it is calmer than Nolimit City's usual extreme releases. Both can be right if the label is simply stricter in our data, but take the catalogue label as the more cautious one.
Comparable Nolimit City titles
Several games with matching numbers are Very high volatility too. Brick Snake 2000 shares the 96.03% RTP with an 8,110x max win. Crazy Ex - Girlfriend lists 96.09% and 9,999x, Outsourced 2 - Balkan Engineering 96.04% and 11,111x, and Beheaded 96.03% and 15,950x. If a bigger ceiling matters, those are the obvious comparisons.
Pros
- Nudging wilds multiply each other, and the Mega symbol can award the maximum
- Two bonus tiers, 10 or 12 spins, with an upgrade path through Overtime
- Max win of 9,217x, or $9,217 at a $1 bet
- Wide choice of buy options from 75x to 1,370x
Cons
- A 21.97% hit frequency means long dry spells are normal
- Lawsuit and Ctrl Alt Del symbols can cut the bonus multiplier
- xBet adds 10% to every spin and blocks the last reel
- No free demo listed in our catalogue
Verdict
Nine To Five trades on heavy mechanics: nudging wilds, a swinging bonus multiplier and a 9,217x ceiling. The 96.03% RTP means a 3.97% house edge, and the catalogue rates volatility as Very high, so long losing runs are part of the design. It suits players with a small bet and a high tolerance for swings. Treat each session as paid entertainment, and decide the budget before the first spin.
