Great Rhino Deluxe review

Great Rhino Deluxe is the reworked version of Pragmatic Play's earlier safari slot, and it changes the scale of what the game can pay. The original lists a 900x maximum win; this deluxe edition quotes 6,242x. The route there goes through two separate bonus modes: a free spins round that stores rhinos for a final payout, and a Super Respin where rhinos stick to the board and chase fixed jackpot prizes.

The base game

This is a payline slot, and wins are read from left to right on adjacent reels. The wild is present on all reels and replaces other symbols, with a few excluded. The studio notes that the deluxe version adds new animals to the reels and brings in 2x multipliers, which are tied to the respin feature described below.

The scatter appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4. That is a narrow target, since it must show on all three of them at once, and it explains why the free spins are a rarer event than a normal win.

Two bonus modes

Each mode has its own trigger, so the base game can send a spin in two different directions. The free spins store rhinos for a payout at the end, while the Super Respin has prizes that are fixed multiples of the bet.

Free spins

Three scatters, one each on reels 2, 3 and 4, award 10 free spins. Special reels are in play for the whole round. Whenever a rhino symbol lands, it is collected. On the last spin, all the collected rhinos return to the screen in random positions and pay line wins according to the paytable. The Super Respin cannot be retriggered inside this round.

Super Respin

Land two or more full stacks of rhino symbols anywhere on the reels in the base game to start it. Only rhinos stay on the screen, and the feature begins with three respins. Each new rhino that lands awards another respin. New 2x multiplier symbols can also appear during the feature.

Major and Grand prizes

The Super Respin ends with a prize that depends on the number of rhinos on the board. Fourteen rhinos win the Major jackpot, worth 375x the bet. Filling the grid with 15 rhinos wins the Grand jackpot, worth 500x.

RTP: two published figures

Our catalogue has one RTP for the game, 96.54%, which gives a house edge of 3.46% and an average cost of about $34.60 per $1,000 wagered. The official rules document gives 94.54% instead. Because Pragmatic Play lets operators choose between RTP versions, read 94.54% as another published figure that may be live in some places, with a larger house edge than the catalogue version.

In short sessions on the 96.54% version, 100 spins at $0.20 cost about $0.69. At $1 per spin the figure is $3.46, and at $5 per spin, or $500 wagered, it is $17.30. These are averages over many players, not a prediction for any single visit.

Max win and volatility

The catalogue does not carry a max win or a volatility label for this game. The studio's description names a 6,242x maximum, and we pass that on as the studio's statement. Volatility is not published at all. What the structure suggests is that the large outcomes depend on the bonuses: the 375x and 500x prizes can only come from a full Super Respin.

Where it sits in the series

The only other game in the franchise in our catalogue is Great Rhino, from 2018, with a 96.53% RTP and a 900x maximum win. Games with similar numbers include Wild West Gold at 96.51% and 10,000x, Aztec Gems Deluxe at 96.5%, and Mysterious Egypt, also 96.5% and rated High, all released in 2020.

Pros

  • Two distinct bonus modes with their own triggers
  • Fixed jackpot prizes of 375x and 500x inside the Super Respin
  • Free spins store rhinos and pay them out together on the final spin
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Catalogue lists 96.54% while the official rules document states 94.54%
  • No volatility rating, and the 6,242x max win comes only from studio text
  • No bonus buy, so both features rely on landing the right symbols

Verdict

Great Rhino Deluxe keeps the safari setting of the original and adds a bigger top prize and a sticky respin round with fixed jackpots. The catalogue RTP is 96.54%, with 94.54% shown in the official rules, and volatility is not published. A 3.46% house edge makes it a paid pastime rather than an income plan. The free demo is a sensible way to see how rarely the stacks and scatters align.
