Candy Stars review

Candy Stars is a short-rulebook game built on one idea: a wild that stays where it lands and gets stronger each time it helps. Pragmatic Play released it in 2022 on a five-by-three set of reels filled with sweets. Every win starts a tumble, and the sticky wild turns a run of tumbles into a growing multiplier. In the bonus the growth speeds up, with a ceiling the studio puts at 128x.

Tumbles on a five-by-three board

The studio describes the board as five reels by three rows. Every win starts a tumble: the winning symbols are replaced by new ones, which gives the spin a chance to pay again. A single paid spin can therefore turn into a short chain.

Our pack does not say how wins are counted, whether by paylines or by ways, and it does not list a number of lines. We state only that tumbles are part of every winning spin.

Sticky wilds on the top reel

Sticky wilds can land on the top reel. Once there, they stay in place instead of disappearing with the next tumble. Each wild carries a multiplier that rises by 1x for every win it takes part in. That is why tumbles matter so much in this game: each extra link in a chain gives the wild another chance to be part of a win and to grow.

The stickiness is the useful part. Because the wild keeps its place and its multiplier, a long chain on one spin can build a result that several short chains could not.

Free spins and the 128x ceiling

Three diamonds award eight free spins. The sticky wilds are upgraded for the round. Instead of growing by a fixed step, their multiplier doubles after each win they are part of, up to a maximum of 128x.

The upgrade means the free spins hold most of the real potential. A wild that doubles can climb far faster than one that adds 1x per win. The pack gives no retrigger rule and no bonus buy, so we leave both out.

What the numbers say

One RTP is on record, 96.47%, a house edge of 3.53%. On average $35.30 is lost per $1,000 wagered. Over 100 spins a $0.20 bet costs about $0.71, a $1 bet about $3.53 and a $5 bet (a total of $500 wagered) about $17.65. Volatility is not published in our data.

The max win is 5,000x the bet, which is $1,000 at $0.20, $5,000 at $1 and $25,000 at $5. A 128x wild multiplier on its own cannot reach the cap, so the top results need a large base win multiplied by a high wild.

Other 5,000x games from the same period

Extra Juicy Megaways from 2022 lists 96.42% and High volatility with the same 5,000x cap. 5 Frozen Charms Megaways (2023) lists 96.5% and 5,000x. From 2021, 5 Lions Megaways and Chilli Heat Megaways both list 96.5%, Buffalo King Megaways 96.52% and Madame Destiny Megaways 96.56%, all with 5,000x.

Pros

  • Sticky wilds keep and grow their multiplier across a tumble chain
  • Doubling multipliers in the free spins, up to 128x
  • Short rulebook that is quick to learn
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Volatility is not published
  • Our data does not describe the win system or the number of lines
  • Eight free spins is a short round

Verdict

Candy Stars is a compact tumbling slot whose appeal rests on sticky wilds with a growing multiplier, upgraded to doubling steps in the eight free spins. The RTP is 96.47%, the house edge 3.53% and the cap 5,000x, with volatility unpublished. It suits players who prefer a few clear rules to a pile of features. The free demo is the best way to judge the pace before spending anything.
