Breakout review

Breakout follows a crew of three criminals on a prison escape, and Nolimit City turns that into a game about multipliers that stay put. Each high paying character has a matching multiplier symbol. Those values persist through the bonus, and a second bonus tier turns the free spins into an elimination round in which characters can be removed. The result is a layout with three clearly separate stages.

Syndicate multipliers in the base game

The board is five reels by four rows. Our catalogue records the game as ways; the studio's page speaks of 20 fixed win lines, and the rules summary says ways or lines, so the sources describe the pay model differently.

The core feature is the Syndicate Multiplier. Whenever the multiplier symbol of a high paying character lands, its value is applied to every matching character symbol in view. Values run from 2x up to 100x. Multipliers on different characters are not added together; they work on the total multiplier of the line.

Chain Reaction Respins

Six or more of the same high paying character start the Chain Reaction. Those symbols become sticky and the rest of the board respins. The sequence continues if more of the same character land, or if six or more of another high paying symbol appear. Bonus symbols that land during the respins are collected towards the free spins, and the win is paid when the sequence ends.

Breakout Spins and Clearout Spins

Three Bonus symbols open the seven Breakout Spins. The Syndicate multipliers persist across all of them. Extra Bonus symbols add three spins, and a second Bonus upgrades the round to Clearout, where the rules convert the remaining spins into a random high multiplier.

Four Bonus symbols open Clearout Spins directly. The rules text we hold does not print the starting spin count for this tier, so it is not given here.

Lives and the Kill symbol

In Clearout, each high paying character has one life. A Kill symbol can land and reveal either a high symbol or a miss. If it hits, that character type is removed from the remaining spins altogether.

Multiplier transfer

When a character is killed, its accumulated multiplier moves to the highest paying character still on the board. The last kill leads to a respin with sticky symbols. So the multiplier is concentrated onto fewer symbols as the round goes on.

Boosters and God Mode

Four options are sold before a spin. Bonus Chase costs 2 times the bet and raises the odds of Breakout or Clearout to four times the normal rate. Syndicate Multiplier costs 20 times and places a random multiplier on each high symbol. The x100 Syndicate costs 90 times and puts 100x on each high symbol. God Mode costs 2,000 times.

God Mode starts with between one and three Max Win symbols. Collecting five of them climbs a ladder of 1,000x, 2,500x and 20,000x. No free demo is listed on the official page, so these options are best judged from the rules.

Return and the volatility question

RTP is 96.07%, a house edge of 3.93% and $39.30 lost per $1,000 wagered. Our catalogue lists Medium volatility, while the studio's page says High. Both are published. The hit frequency is 23.38%, which is less than one spin in four.

A hundred spins cost $0.79 on average at $0.20, $3.93 at $1 and $19.65 at $5. The 20,000x cap is $4,000 at $0.20, $20,000 at $1 and $100,000 at $5.

Other Medium games

The Cage lists 96.05% and 25,000x, Dragon Tribe 96.07% and 27,000x, and Space Donkey 96.07% and 14,649x. Roadkill (96.04%, 11,091x), Kiss My Chainsaw (96.1%, 10,900x) and Benji Killed In Vegas (96.04%, 10,000x) all have lower caps.

Pros

  • Syndicate multipliers from 2x to 100x stay in place through the Breakout Spins
  • Chain Reaction respins make six matching high symbols sticky
  • Clearout Spins move a removed character's multiplier to the best remaining one
  • God Mode ladder reaches the 20,000x cap

Cons

  • Medium in the catalogue but High on the studio page, so the pace is uncertain
  • Hit frequency of 23.38% means most spins return nothing
  • No free demo is listed, and the Clearout spin count is not printed in our source

Verdict

Breakout is a layered game: persistent multipliers, sticky respins and an elimination bonus. The 96.07% RTP leaves a 3.93% house edge, the cap is 20,000x the bet and the volatility is Medium in our catalogue and High according to the studio. That mismatch suggests starting with small stakes and reading the Clearout rules before paying for any of the boosters.
