Big Bass Bonanza review
Fish carry cash in this 2020 fishing slot from Pragmatic Play. Every fish symbol shows a random money value on each spin, but those values can only be collected in the free spins, when a wild fisherman appears on the reels and scoops up everything visible. Collect enough wilds and the round extends with a bigger multiplier on each catch. It is a simple loop, backed by a 96.71% RTP.
The base game: lines and fish
Symbols pay on paylines from left to right, according to the official rules. The fish are both paying symbols and money symbols: each one takes a random cash value whenever it lands. The studio page puts the top money value at 2,000x.
In the base game those cash values are only on display. The wild does not appear on the reels outside the bonus, so the base game is mostly about ordinary line wins and waiting for scatters. That split is worth understanding before you start: the visible fish values are a preview, not a prize.
Money Symbol
Fish symbols double as money symbols and take a random cash value on every spin. That value can only be won during the free spins, when a wild lands on the same screen and collects it.
Free spins: the collection round
Three scatters award 10 free spins, four award 15 and five award 20. During the round the wild appears on all reels and substitutes for every symbol except the scatter. Each wild that lands also collects the values of all money symbols on screen at that moment.
The wilds themselves are counted until the round ends. Every fourth wild collected retriggers the feature with 10 more spins and raises the multiplier on money collection: 2x after the first retrigger, 3x after the second and 10x after the third. The extra spins are played once the current batch is finished.
That ladder is where the upside lives. A round that never reaches four wilds pays only face values, while one that climbs to the 10x stage multiplies every later catch.
Free Spins
Triggered by 3, 4 or 5 scatters for 10, 15 or 20 spins. Wilds collect every visible money value and are tallied; each fourth wild adds 10 spins and lifts the collection multiplier to 2x, then 3x, then 10x on the third retrigger.
Return to player and the 2,100x cap
The catalogue gives one RTP, 96.71%, for a house edge of 3.29%. Over the long run it keeps around $32.90 for every $1,000 wagered. The rules document in the pack also names a theoretical 90.63%, so a different version may be in use; the game's info screen will confirm.
Any win is limited to 2,100x the stake. That means $420 on a $0.20 bet, $2,100 on $1 and $10,500 on $5. The ceiling is low compared with many newer games, which keeps the very top outcome modest.
Cost per session: 100 spins at $1 average $3.29 lost on $100 wagered, and 100 spins at $5 average $16.45. No volatility rating is published, and there is no bonus purchase or ante bet in the official rules.
The wider Big Bass catalogue
Four follow-ups under the same name are recorded. Big Bass Bonanza Megaways (2021) lists 96.7% and up to 4,000x. Big Bass Bonanza 3 Reeler and Big Bass Bonanza - Reel Action, both from 2024, sit at 96.5%. Big Bass Bonanza 1000 (2025) lists 96.51% with a 20,000x ceiling.
Christmas Big Bass Bonanza (2021) shares the 96.71% RTP and 2,100x cap, and Bigger Bass Bonanza from the same year keeps 96.71% but lifts the cap to 4,000x.
Is it a fit?
The rules are easy to grasp, which suits newcomers. The trade-off is that the base game cannot pay the fish values, so long stretches between bonuses are part of the design. Players who want a higher ceiling will find bigger caps in the later titles listed above; those who value a strong RTP and a single clear feature may prefer the original.
Pros
- One clear feature: wilds collect fish money values
- Retrigger ladder raises the collection multiplier to 10x
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Fish values cannot be won in the base game
- Wins are capped at 2,100x the bet
- No volatility rating is published
Verdict
Big Bass Bonanza does one thing and explains it well: fish show cash values, and in the free spins the wild collects them, with every fourth wild adding spins and a larger multiplier. The 96.71% RTP is strong for Pragmatic Play, while the 2,100x cap is modest and no volatility rating is published. Try the demo, check the RTP shown in the game, and remember the 3.29% house edge.
