Marlin Masters OG review
Hacksaw Gaming's fishing slot works like a collection game. Marlin symbols show a cash value on their face, and Fisherman symbols reel them in, sometimes with a multiplier attached. The grid is small, with five reels, three rows and nine paylines, so the interest sits in that collection and in three free spin rounds that each handle it differently. The studio's own text is a single line, so the rules are our main source.
Marlin symbols with a price tag
Lootlines is the studio's name for the cash values. A Marlin symbol displays the actual payout that will be awarded if it is collected, expressed as a multiple of the bet. The values run through 0.5x, 1x, 2x and on up in steps to 100x, 250x, 500x and 1000x.
Wins on the nine paylines are read left to right across adjacent reels. The paytable's symbol requirements apply in the bonus rounds too, unless the rules say otherwise.
How Marlins are collected
Marlins are collected when three or more of them land in a winning payline combination. A Fisherman symbol on the grid goes further: each Fisherman collects every Marlin once, whether or not a payline win happened.
The Fisherman can land with a multiplier of 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 15x or 20x. That multiplier applies to the value of all the Marlins that Fisherman collects. Fishermen do not collect each other's values.
Catch Them All!
Three or more Marlins in a winning combination are collected. Each Fisherman also collects every Marlin on the grid once, with its own multiplier from 1x to 20x applied to what it takes.
Three bonus rounds
The number of free spin scatters that land together in the base game picks the round. The first two share a progress bar, while the third changes the odds of the symbols themselves.
Reel It In!
Three scatters give 10 free spins. A Marlin Progress Bar appears outside the grid and moves up one step each time a Fisherman lands, whether or not it collects anything. After every fourth Fisherman a new upgrade level is reached.
Off the Hook!
Four scatters give 15 free spins and use the same progress bar. The studio says upgraded levels are easier to reach here, with retriggers and stronger multipliers on offer.
Plenty of Fish in the Sea
Five scatters give 10 free spins. Every Marlin carries a value of at least 5x, and each spin brings at least one Marlin and one Fisherman, so a collection happens on every spin.
Three RTP versions
The catalogue records 96.25%, 94.23% and 92.27%. The house edge runs from 3.75% to 7.73%. At the top version, $1,000 wagered costs about $37.50 on average, and at the lowest about $77.30. A hundred spins at $1 would average $3.75 against $7.73, and at $5 it is $18.75 against $38.65.
Volatility is Medium in the catalogue. No max win is published in the sources we hold, and bonus buy prices and the ante bet are mentioned without figures. Since the operator picks the RTP, look at the game info screen to see which version you are playing.
Medium volatility alternatives
Vending Machine lists 96.28% and a 5,000x cap, Xmas Drop 96.22% and 12,500x, and Magic Piggy OG 96.2% and 2,500x. Great Game Serengeti, Le Sortudo and Sand and Ashes all sit around 96.27-96.29%, each rated Medium.
Pros
- Cash values are shown on the Marlin symbols themselves
- Fisherman multipliers reach 20x
- Three distinct bonus rounds, from 10 to 15 free spins
- Medium volatility
Cons
- Three RTP versions, with the lowest at 92.27%
- No max win or buy prices in the sources we hold
- No free demo listed in our catalogue
Verdict
Marlin Masters OG turns a small nine-payline grid into a collecting game, where Fisherman multipliers up to 20x and cash-value Marlins drive both the base game and three free spin rounds. Volatility is Medium and the best RTP is 96.25%, but versions fall to 92.27%, a 7.73% house edge. Confirm the version first, and spend only what you treat as entertainment cost.
