The Dog House Megaways review

Pragmatic Play moved its dog-themed line game onto Megaways reels in 2020 and kept the idea that defined it: wilds that carry multipliers. Six reels of changing height give up to 117,649 ways, wilds can double or triple a win, and several wilds in one combination multiply each other. The bonus then asks a question: do you want sticky wilds that stay put, or wilds that rain in fresh every spin?

Reels that change shape

Each of the six reels can show up to 7 symbols, and the height of every reel changes from spin to spin. When all six are at full height there are 117,649 ways to win. Matching symbols pay from left to right on adjacent reels, in combinations of any size.

Wilds appear only on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 and substitute for regular symbols. In the base game a wild can arrive with a random 2x or 3x multiplier. If more than one wild is part of the same winning combination, their multipliers are multiplied together rather than added, so a 2x and a 3x wild in one way give 6x.

Choosing the bonus

Three or more scatters anywhere start the feature, and before the first spin you pick one of two options. The round cannot be retriggered in either case, so what you get at the start is what you play with.

Sticky Wilds free spins

The spin count depends on the trigger: 7 spins for three scatters, 12 for four, 15 for five and 20 for six. The rules give a range of 2 to 7 sticky wilds on each reel, or 3 to 7 with six scatters. Every wild that lands takes a random 1x, 2x or 3x multiplier and stays until the round ends, resizing as the reel height changes. Each reel is kept at least as tall as the number of sticky wilds it holds.

Raining Wilds free spins

Described on the studio's page rather than in the rules extract we hold. This option starts with 15 to 30 free spins, and on every spin up to 6 wilds can drop onto random positions. Nothing stays between spins, so the outcome depends on where each new batch lands.

Buy Free Spins

For 100x the current total bet the feature can be triggered straight from the base game, with the same choice of options. The bought spin lands a random number of scatters from 3 to 6, so the length of the bought round is not fixed in advance.

Sticky or raining: the trade-off

The two modes spread risk in different ways. Sticky Wilds builds a board of fixed wilds whose multipliers keep working on every remaining spin, so a strong start can carry the whole round, while a weak start stays weak. Raining Wilds offers more spins and a fresh draw each time, which spreads the outcome across more chances but gives no lasting advantage. Neither choice changes the game's overall return.

RTP and cost per session

The single RTP on record is 96.55%, leaving a 3.45% house edge, or about $34.50 per $1,000 staked over a long run. One hundred spins cost $0.69 on average at $0.20, $3.45 at $1 and $17.25 at $5.

Our catalogue has no volatility rating and no maximum win for this title, and the studio's page does not give one either.

Wild multipliers that compound mean a small share of combinations can produce a large share of the payout. The averages above describe the long run; a single evening can sit far above or below them.

The Dog House family

The original The Dog House from 2019 lists a 96.51% RTP and a 6,750x cap. The newest entry, The Dog House Megaways 1000 from 2026, lists 96.5%. Among other Megaways titles from the studio, Madame Destiny Megaways from 2021 has 96.56% with a 5,000x ceiling, and 5 Lions Megaways and Chilli Heat Megaways, both from 2021, list 96.5% and 5,000x.

Pros

  • Up to 117,649 ways with wild multipliers that multiply each other
  • Choice between Sticky Wilds and Raining Wilds free spins
  • Sticky wilds keep their 1x to 3x multipliers for the whole round
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Free spins cannot be retriggered
  • No volatility rating or max win published
  • Bonus buy costs 100x the total bet

Verdict

The Dog House Megaways keeps a clear core: multiplier wilds on reels 2 to 5 that multiply each other, now across up to 117,649 ways. The bonus choice between sticky and raining wilds is a real decision about how to spread risk, though neither mode retriggers. The RTP is 96.55%, but there is no published volatility or ceiling. Try both modes in the free demo and budget for a 3.45% house edge.
