The Dog House - Muttley Crew review
The Dog House Muttley Crew is the 2024 follow-up to the original Dog House from 2019, and it moves the crew from the kennel to the high seas. Pragmatic Play sets it on a 5x5 grid where pirate dogs and a bone are the top symbols and wins come from clusters of five or more. Treasure chest wilds carry multipliers of up to 10x. In the free spins they become sticky, which is the part the whole game leans on.
Clusters on a 5x5 board
A win needs five or more matching icons connected in a cluster. The grid is five by five, so there are twenty-five positions to fill, and the pirate dogs and the bone sit at the top of the paytable.
The studio text gives no cluster prize values, so we cannot say what a plain win pays. What it does give is the wild: a treasure chest that can show up at any point in the game and carries a multiplier of up to 10x for any winning line it is part of.
Free spins with sticky wilds
Paw print scatters award up to 20 free spins. The studio does not list the exact scatter counts for each amount, only the maximum.
The change in the round is permanence. In the free spins, multiplier wilds become sticky and keep their value for the entire round, so each new one adds to what is already on the board.
Sticky multiplier wilds
Treasure chest wilds stay in position with their multiplier through every free spin. A wild that lands early is therefore worth more than one that lands near the end, because it applies to many more spins.
Retriggers
More scatters during the round can add free spins, up to 30 extra according to the studio. That is more than the 20 available at the start, so a round that retriggers well can last far longer than it began.
Where the value is
The logic is easy to follow. Sticky wilds accumulate, retriggers lengthen the round, and a longer round gives the sticky wilds more spins to work. The base game carries multipliers of its own, but it cannot build on them the same way.
Our catalogue has no volatility label and no max win for this game, and the studio page offers none. The size of the best-case result is therefore unknown.
The original and the cost
The catalogue lists a single predecessor, The Dog House from 2019, at 96.51%. This sequel sits at 96.5%, so the long-run cost is almost identical. The house edge is 3.5%, or about $35 for every $1,000 wagered.
Per 100 spins, a $0.20 bet averages a $0.70 loss, a $1 bet $3.50 and a $5 bet $17.50 for $500 staked. Other 2024 games at 96.5% include Badge Blitz and Barnyard Megahays Megaways.
Pros
- Wild multipliers up to 10x in both base game and free spins
- Multiplier wilds are sticky for the whole free spins round
- Retriggers can add up to 30 extra spins
- Free official demo available
Cons
- No volatility label or max win in our catalogue
- Exact scatter counts for each free spins amount are not published
Verdict
The Dog House Muttley Crew keeps the cluster format of the series and puts its weight on sticky multiplier wilds in the free spins. A 96.5% RTP is almost identical to the 2019 original at 96.51%, and the 3.5% house edge is the price of play. With volatility unpublished, a few demo sessions are the best way to see how often the free spins arrive and whether the pace suits your budget.
