Primate King Megaways review
Red Tiger's 2022 sequel puts a single character at the centre: the Primate Wild. It covers a whole reel, carries a multiplier and gets stronger as you feed it Gold Coins through three stages of evolution. Complete the third stage and a sixth reel appears, loaded with high-paying symbols and the route into free spins. Cascades run without limit underneath. The catalogue lists a 95.7% RTP, a High volatility label and a 30,000x max win.
Cascades and the Primate Wild
Winning symbols vanish and new ones fall in, and the studio says the chain has no set limit. The standout symbol is the Primate Wild, a super wild that covers an entire reel and always lands in full view on reels 2, 3, 4 or 5. It holds a multiplier between x2 and x7.
If the Primate Wild does not take part in a win, it locks in place on its reel until it does. When it finally wins, it is not removed. Instead, its multiplier goes up by 1.
Three stages of evolution
Gold Coins can land anywhere on the reels. Collecting 30 of them completes one stage of the Primate Evolution bar, which sits over the sixth reel. There are three stages, and each adds a life point to the Primate Wild. With every life point, the wild stays on the reels one spin longer after it forms a win.
Stage 1
Adds one life point to the Primate Wild, so it stays one spin longer after a win.
Stage 2
Adds another life point. On the next spin the Primate Wild also destroys the 9 symbol, which then no longer appears on the reels.
Stage 3
Adds a third life point and opens the chance to enter free spins. The progress bar disappears and reveals the sixth reel, where only high-paying symbols and Gold Coins can land. Coins stop appearing on the first five reels, and one may land on the sixth.
Free spins
Once every stage is complete, a Gold Coin on the sixth reel together with the Primate Wild awards 4 free spins. The studio adds one extra free spin for each life point the Primate Wild still has. The part of the rule text that explains the rest of the round is cut off in the version we hold, so we do not describe it.
RTP, volatility and cost
Primate King Megaways has one RTP on record, 95.7%, a house edge of 4.3%, which is about $43 lost per $1,000 wagered. The hit frequency is 30.17%.
A 100-spin session costs on average $0.86 at a $0.20 bet, $4.30 at $1 and $21.50 at $5. The 30,000x max win equals $6,000 at $0.20, $30,000 at $1 and $150,000 at $5. The High label means results can swing widely around the average cost.
The original and similar slots
The first Primate King from 2021 lists 95.66% RTP, Medium volatility and a 3,800x max win. The Megaways sequel raises the volatility label by a step and the top prize almost eightfold.
Among High-rated games with similar numbers, Wolf Stacks Megaways lists 95.72% and 30,538x, Gods of Troy Megaways from 2025 95.71% and 43,200x, Dynamite Riches Megaways from 2021 95.75% and 8,185x, Doggy Riches Megaways 95.7% and 3,494x and Gems Inferno Megaways 95.67% and 2,553x. Pros
- Primate Wild covers a full reel with a x2 to x7 multiplier
- Evolution bar gives clear goals to chase in the base game
- 30,000x max win
- Free official demo available
Cons
- A 4.3% house edge, or about $43 per $1,000 wagered
- Free spins sit behind completing all three evolution stages
- High volatility, so sessions can swing widely
Verdict
Primate King Megaways turns one wild symbol into a long-term project: collect coins, grow its life points, unlock the sixth reel, then go for the free spins. The 95.7% RTP, High volatility and 30,000x max win give it a high-ceiling profile, with a 4.3% house edge as the price. If an evolving feature appeals, the free demo is the safest way to see how fast the stages fill.
